Senior Database Administrator (DBA) - Dartmouth/Halifax, NS

Position Description
CGI is seeking an experienced Senior Database Administrator to support secure enterprise-scale database solutions. The Senior DBA will be responsible for the availability, security, integrity, performance and recoverability of critical database platforms while working closely with application, infrastructure, cybersecurity, architecture and operational support teams.

Location: Dartmouth/ Halifax, Nova Scotia
Work Model: On-site – 5 days per week

Your future duties and responsibilities
• Install, configure, administer, maintain, patch and upgrade enterprise database platforms.
• Monitor database availability, capacity, security and performance.
• Perform database and SQL performance analysis and tuning.
• Develop and maintain backup, restore and disaster-recovery procedures.
• Design and support database high-availability and resilience solutions.
• Administer database roles, privileges and access controls following least-privilege principles.
• Apply patches, upgrades and security updates through established change-management processes.
• Identify and remediate database vulnerabilities and configuration issues.
• Support application teams with database design, troubleshooting and performance optimization.
• Conduct capacity planning and forecast future database requirements.
• Develop scripts and automation to improve database administration and monitoring.
• Troubleshoot complex production incidents and perform root-cause analysis.
• Maintain technical documentation, configuration records and operating procedures.
• Participate in architecture and solution-design reviews.
• Support database migration, consolidation, upgrade and modernization initiatives.
• Participate in incident, problem, change, vulnerability and availability-management processes.
• Provide technical leadership and mentorship to other database resources.

Required qualifications to be successful in this role
• 8+ years of enterprise database administration experience.
• Senior-level expertise with one or more enterprise database platforms such as Microsoft SQL Server, Oracle and/or PostgreSQL.
• Strong knowledge of database architecture, SQL performance tuning, backup/recovery, replication and high availability.
• Experience supporting mission-critical production environments.
• Strong knowledge of database security, access management and privileged-access controls.
• Experience with enterprise database monitoring and performance-management tools.
• Scripting/automation experience using PowerShell, Python, SQL or comparable technologies.
• Knowledge of Windows and/or Linux server environments.
• Experience operating within structured ITIL-based incident, change and problem-management processes.
• Virtualization, cloud and hybrid-infrastructure experience is an asset.
• Relevant Microsoft, Oracle, PostgreSQL or cloud certifications are assets.
• Defence, government or security-sensitive environment experience is a strong asset.

Security and work requirements

Full-time on-site presence in Dartmouth/Halifax five days per week is required, together with 5+ years Canadian residency as applicable to the assignment and eligibility for Reliability and/or Secret clearance and Canadian Controlled Goods Program requirements.

CGI is providing a reasonable estimate of the pay range for this role. The determination of this range includes factors such as skill set level, geographic market, experience and training, and licenses and certifications. Compensation decisions depend on the facts and circumstances of each case. A reasonable estimate of the current range is $65,000.00–$125,000.00 This role is a future opportunity
