Environmental Scientist or Engineering Field Technician

Job Responsibility:

Our Civil Engineering and Contaminated Sites teams have an opening for a Field Technician position and details are as follows:

The ideal candidate will:

• Be comfortable working outdoors in a variety of settings (urban, rural and remote), including in inclement weather. Experience in the construction industry or other technical fieldwork would be a strong asset but is not mandatory.
• Have a strong spatial awareness, and an aptitude for creating legible and accurate maps, plans, and diagrams with pencil and paper.
• Be comfortable using simple hand tools and equipment to collect field measurements.
• Possess a working knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook) and Adobe Acrobat.
• Possess excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
• Be a skilled multi-tasker and critical thinker.

Requirements:

• Diploma or Degree in Civil or Environmental Engineering Technology from an institution within Canada, US or Common Wealth Country. Or an undergraduate degree in environmental engineering with two years of contaminated sites or environmental engineering experience within Canada. Candidates without these requirements will not be considered.
• Valid full driver's license in Canada with a clean driver's abstract and personal vehicle (non-negotiable)
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English
• Canadian Citizenship or Permanent Residency or a valid work permit

Duties and responsibilities:

• Conducting Stage 1 and Stage 2 Preliminary Site Investigations, Detailed Site Investigations and Remediation programs
• Preparing technical reports (including but not limited to Stage 1 and 2 PSIs and DSIs) summarizing the results of environmental assessments and monitoring activities.
• Collecting and handling soil, groundwater, vapour and surface water samples.
• Conducting environmental monitoring and site inspections
• Wastewater treatment systems monitoring and permitting
• Topographical field GPS and Level surveys
• Recording data and observations in an accurate, legible, well-organized manner.
• Preparing and coordinating subcontractors and equipment for field programs.
• Filing and managing field notes, including some data entry.
• Surveying (total station and RTK)
• Other duties as assigned

This position and responsibilities will evolve over time, based on the employee's skills, performance, and career objectives.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $50,000.00-$70,000.00 per year
