POSITION FUNCTION
Under the supervision of the Planning Manager, the Development Technician performs technical and administrative work to support the Development Services Department and administers the Regional District’s short term rental permit program, including its anticipated transition to a business licence function.

KEY DUTIES/SKILLS

• Processes delegated and non-delegated short term rental permits.
• Performs plan checks on building permit applications
• Coordinates the short term rental permit program and any successor business licence process.
• Responds to land use and development inquiries.
• Processes minor development applications.
• Updates land use and development information in the Land Management System.
• Ability to read and interpret bylaws, maps, legal documents, land title information, relevant legislation, building and site plans.
• Computer literate with experience in land management systems and Microsoft Office Suite.
• Engage with fellow employees, the public and outside agencies in a courteous manner.
• Establish and maintain effective working relationships.
• Maintain composure and find solutions when dealing with difficult customers.
• Understand and apply methods of land use planning.
• Interpret and apply delegated authority under bylaw and Provincial regulation.
• Maintain attention to detail in applying land use planning and development regulations, bylaws and permit requirements with a high degree of accuracy.

QUALIFICATIONS
Formal Education, Training and Occupational Certification:

• Two years Architectural Technologies diploma or related diploma.
• BC Driver’s Licence.

Experience:

• Two years’ experience in land development or land use planning.
