Grid Telecom Operations Engineer

Lead advanced IP telecommunications operations at BC Hydro, supporting reliability across microwave radio and fibre optic networks throughout British Columbia.As Grid Telecom Operations Specialist Engineer, you will provide technical leadership for BC Hydro’s complex grid telecommunications network. The work includes outage support, operational risk assessment, laboratory testing, restoration strategies, and collaboration with engineering teams and vendors. You will guide project delivery and operational evolution.Key Responsibilities:
Provide advanced leadership for complex IP telecommunications network operationsSupport outages, severe weather events, wildfires, and disruptionsCoordinate investigations involving multiple stakeholders and network issuesGuide testing, commissioning, provisioning, and systems integrationDevelop restoration strategies and operational improvement practicesRequirements:
Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering recognized by Canadian universitiesRegistration or immediate eligibility for P.Eng. with EGBCTen or more years’ electrical utility telecommunications experienceExperience with microwave radio, MPLS, optical transport, multiplexors, and routingExperience coordinating projects and managing project resourcesApply advanced engineering judgment, outage support, and telecom expertise to BC Hydro’s reliable grid network operations.
