AI & Automation Data Scientist Intern (Jan 2026 - 4 month - Toronto or Calgary)

Your role and responsibilities

As an Intern Data Scientist, you will collaborate with partners, product managers, data scientists, architects, and software engineers to conceptualize, develop, and deploy machine learning solutions that address enterprise‑scale problems.

You will support project work on IBM Cloud or Azure, engage in data exploration and storytelling, and contribute to innovative initiatives that deliver value to external clients and internal stakeholders.

Requirements

• Applicants must reside in Toronto or Montreal.
• Internship term: 4 months, commencing January 2026.
• Full‑time enrollment in a post‑secondary institution; requires return to studies after the term.
• Fluency in French required for Quebec positions.
• Must be eligible to work in Canada without sponsorship.

Required education

• High School Diploma or GED.

Preferred education

• Bachelor’s Degree.

Required technical and professional expertise

• Demonstrated familiarity or interest in machine learning, statistical analysis, or data mining through internships, projects, hackathons, or publications.
• Experience with scripting languages (Python preferred) or a solid computer science foundation.
• Hands‑on experience with GenAI/Agentic AI frameworks such as langchain, semantic kernel, LangGraph, AutoGen, and LLM concepts (prompt‑engineering, RAG).
• Ability to communicate ideas clearly to peers and managers, work independently and within cross‑functional teams.
• Eligible to work full‑time for 4 months starting January 2026.

Preferred technical and professional experience

• Minimum one work term in a data science or machine learning role.
• Experience with Python machine‑learning libraries (scikit‑learn, SciPy, pandas, TensorFlow).
• General familiarity with databases and data‑engineering tools (SQL, Spark).
• Familiarity with cloud platforms (IBM Cloud, Azure, AWS).

• This role involves technology covered by export regulation sanctions. Foreign nationals from Cuba, Iran, North Korea, Syria, or specified Ukrainian regions with a work permit are not eligible.
