Hatchery Games is looking for a VFX Artist [Full Time]

I’m a co-founder at Hatchery Games, an independent video game development studio, located in Quebec City, Canada. We are currently working on a brand new title and are looking for a VFX Artist to join our team!

At Hatchery Games, the visual effect artist is responsible for creating breathtaking effects to clarify the gameplay experience and create memorable moments for our players. By mastering a wide array of software, the artist finds innovative and creative solutions to create complex visual effects that utilize their sense of rhythm as well as their mastery of colors, shaders, and 3D modeling.

Responsibilities

1. Work closely with game designers to prototype and polish player character gameplay abilities.
2. Work with the level artist to populate our world with visual effects that give it life.
3. Work with the narrative team to visually represent key story beats.
4. Work within budget based on modern hardware limitations.

Qualifications

1. Able to work in close collaboration with designers, animators, and multidisciplinary teams.
2. Mastery of art fundamentals.
3. Mastery of Unreal Engine visual effect creation tools (Niagara).
4. Able to create shaders inside a game engine.
5. 2D assets creation, 3D assets creation, composition, and integration.
6. Motivated and independent.
7. Able to self-critique and receive feedback.
8. Able to conceptualize their own effects, a plus.
9. Vectorial maths and visual scripting basis, a plus.
10. 3-5 years of experience working in games as a visual effect artist.
