Role

Senior Process Engineer is a senior technical individual contributor responsible for the technical leadership, execution, and quality of process engineering and design deliverables on EPCM and consulting projects across energy, utilities, industrial, and renewables sectors. This role provides hands‑on engineering leadership across projects, acting as a technical authority for process engineering while supporting project teams, mentoring junior engineers, and ensuring professional work products (PWPs) meet Catch Engineering and client expectations.

Senior Process Engineer works closely with Project Managers, discipline leads, and other engineering specialists (including Mechanical, Electrical, and I&C disciplines), without formal line‑management or departmental budget responsibility.

Areas of Accountability

  • Lead or support the technical execution of process engineering scopes under the direction of the Project Manager
  • Develop and review process design bases, simulations, calculations, and specifications
  • Perform process system modeling and simulation using established software tools such as Aspen HYSYS, UniSim, or equivalent
  • Produce and review professional work products (PWPs) including PFDs, P&IDs;, heat and material balances, and design reports
  • Act as a technical authority / subject matter expert for process engineering on assigned projects
  • Participate in and lead QA/QC and interdisciplinary reviews
  • Authenticate and stamp PWPs where required

Standards, Tools & Best Practices

  • Contribute to the development and continuous improvement of process engineering standards, procedures, and templates
  • Support effective use of process engineering software, modeling tools, and calculation methodologies
  • Maintain awareness of emerging technologies, tools, and industry trends relevant to process engineering

Interdisciplinary Coordination & Collaboration

  • Collaborate closely with Mechanical Engineering to support equipment sizing, specification, and mechanical design development
  • Interface with Electrical and Instrumentation & Controls disciplines to ensure integrated and constructible designs
  • Participate in interdisciplinary model reviews, design workshops, and constructability reviews
  • Support resolution of interdisciplinary technical issues through coordinated engineering solutions

Project & Client Support

  • Support Project Managers with scope definition, execution strategies, and technical planning
  • Interface directly with clients as a senior technical representative during design reviews and issue resolution
  • Provide technical input into proposals, bids, and change scopes as required

Mentorship & Technical Development

  • Provide technical mentorship and coaching to junior and intermediate process engineers and Members-in-Training
  • Support knowledge transfer, best practices, and on-the-job technical development
  • Participate in informal performance feedback and skills development discussions without formal HR accountability

Qualification Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Process, Chemical, or equivalent Engineering discipline
  • Registered Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) in Alberta; additional jurisdictions considered an asset
  • Typically 10+ years of experience in process engineering within an EPCM or consulting environment
  • Demonstrated experience with process system modeling using tools such as Aspen HYSYS, UniSim, or similar platforms
  • Demonstrated ability to lead complex process engineering scopes and technical decisions
  • Experience in industries such as Utilities, Energy Services, Energy Storage, Power Generation, and/or Renewables
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to manage multiple concurrent projects and priorities
