Role Overview
Reporting to the Reliability Superintendent, the Reliability Engineer plays a fundamental role within the Fixed Plant Maintenance Department. This position is responsible for establishing criteria and systems for the implementation and standardization of reliability engineering techniques. The main objective is to promote best practices through short-, medium-, and long-term strategies aimed at reducing equipment and system failures, particularly in critical assets. The ultimate purpose is to ensure optimal operational efficiency and profitability across all production processes within the plant.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop, implement, and monitor reliability strategies and methodologies for fixed plant equipment, including crushers, mills, conveyors, thickeners, pumps, and other critical process assets.
- Establish and maintain systems for data collection and analysis (MTBF, MTTR, failure modes, RCA, Weibull analysis, etc.) to identify chronic issues and reduce recurrence of failures.
- Lead and facilitate Root Cause Analysis (RCA) investigations and ensure the timely implementation of corrective and preventive actions.
- Collaborate with Planning, Operations, and Maintenance teams to integrate reliability principles into daily, weekly, and long-term maintenance planning.
- Drive a culture of Total Productive Maintenance (TPM) and continuous improvement within the department.
- Develop and monitor equipment risk matrices, ensuring proactive mitigation of risks related to low availability or high operational impact.
- Optimize the lifecycle management of fixed plant assets, focusing on eliminating losses, reducing downtime, and extending asset useful life.
- Support the design and execution of preventive and predictive maintenance programs, leveraging condition monitoring technologies (vibration analysis, thermography, oil analysis, etc.).
- Track performance indicators such as equipment availability, reliability, utilization, and cost efficiency, reporting regularly to management.
- Provide technical expertise in the evaluation of spare parts strategies, rebuild policies, and supplier performance to ensure reliability and compliance with operational requirements.
What You Bring to the Table
- Bachelor’s degree in mechanical, Electrical, or Industrial Engineering (or related field).
- Minimum of 5 years’ experience in reliability engineering, preferably in the mining industry sector. Strong knowledge of reliability methodologies (RCA, FMEA, RCM, Weibull, etc.).
- Proven experience in applying reliability practices to fixed plant equipment and processes.
- Familiarity with predictive maintenance technologies and CMMS/EAM systems (e.g., SAP). Strong analytical, problem-solving, and data interpretation skills.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to influence cross-functional teams.
- Certification in Reliability Engineering, Six Sigma, or Maintenance Management is an asset.
