About the CASA Mental Health Classrooms Program
You will be a part of a team that works within community schools, right where children live and learn. The CASA Classrooms program provides individual and group therapy, psychiatric care, medication management and schooling according to each student’s individual need. CASA Classrooms are CASA ’ s model for school-based mental health service. The program is delivered in partnership with the Government of Alberta, community partners and school divisions.

Job Details
Wage range: $33.92 to $41.70
Vacation: 15 days annually
Shift structure: Monday to Friday, 7.25 hours per day
Primary location: Slave Lake

About the Role
Reporting to the Program Manager, the Therapy Support Navigator works closely with the program’s Mental Health Therapists (MHTs) to support screening, case management, delivery of treatment and achievement of treatment plans. The Therapy Support Navigator has an integral role within the therapy team to provide treatment extension, and promote the uptake and application of skills within family and school settings. The Therapy Support Navigator also facilitates child, adolescent and parent treatment groups under the supervision of the MHTs.

The Therapy Support Navigator will:
  • Assist Mental Health Therapists with assessments and assigned case management.
  • Conduct facility, school and home observations and prepare reports.
  • Provide hands-on modelling and coaching to families based on treatment plans.
  • Maintain family contacts to review strategies and provide updates to the treatment team.
  • Contact schools, parents and community partners on behalf of clinicians to gather information and support patient success.
  • Assist with patient and family groups, including facilitation, setup, observation and note-taking.
  • Attend staff planning sessions, case conferences and patient meetings to provide information on community support and discharge resources.
  • Complete electronic medical record documentation and support completion of treatment plans and reports.
  • Build relationships with Head Start staff through meetings, classroom visits and online presentations.
  • Prepare monthly newsletters for Head Start sites covering CASA programs, groups, referrals and child development.
  • Participate in supervision and weekly interprofessional case conferences.
  • Provide coverage when necessary and perform other duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  • Strong knowledge of behaviour management techniques and evidence-based practices.
  • Excellent case management, critical thinking, collaboration, analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong organizational and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently, prioritize tasks and adapt to changing situations.
  • Ability to ask effective questions to identify key issues and drivers.
  • Understanding of interdisciplinary approaches to mental health and mental illness.
  • Ability to build consensus and work respectfully and collaboratively with all staff.
  • Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Office including Outlook, Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
Qualifications and Experience
  • Bachelor’s degree in social work, child and youth care, early childhood education or a related discipline such as psychology, social sciences, etc.
  • Active registration under the Health Professions Act, if eligible.
  • A minimum of two years of practical experience in children’s mental health treatment setting.
  • Experience in navigating services and locating resources in a community.
Conditions of Employment
  • A satisfactory Criminal Records Check with Vulnerable Sector Search and Child Intervention Check. This would be the financial responsibility of the successful candidate.
  • Ability to pass and maintain Therapeutic Crisis Intervention (TCI) certification (training provided by CASA) as well as physical ability to perform all interventions.

  • Va lid class 5 driver’s license and access to a reliable vehicle.
