Senior Litigation Associate

Role Description

The Senior Litigation Associate will manage a varied litigation docket, including family, commercial/civil, construction, corporate, labour/employment, and criminal/fraud matters. This full-time, on-site role in Vaughan, ON involves drafting pleadings, motions, and other court materials; conducting legal research and analysis; and preparing litigation strategies. The associate will attend court appearances, mediations, arbitrations, and other proceedings, as well as conduct examinations and depositions where applicable. Day-to-day responsibilities include advising clients, evaluating evidence, negotiating settlements, and collaborating with colleagues and support staff to move files forward efficiently. The role also includes mentoring junior team members, contributing to firm best practices, and maintaining strong professional relationships with clients and the courts.

Qualifications

• Strong foundation in Law with demonstrated experience in civil, family, commercial, and related litigation matters.
• Proficiency in drafting and arguing motions and other court documents, with strong advocacy and written communication skills.
• Advanced legal research abilities, including case law, statutes, regulations, and procedural rules.
• Experience conducting depositions or examinations, interviewing witnesses, and preparing evidence for trial or hearings.
• Comfort working with various courts, including trial and appellate levels, and familiarity with local rules and procedures.
• Licensed to practice law in Ontario and in good standing with the Law Society of Ontario.
• Minimum of 5–7 years of litigation experience, preferably in a multi-practice litigation environment.
• Excellent analytical, organizational, and time-management skills, with the ability to manage multiple complex files.
• Strong client service orientation, sound judgment, and the ability to work both independently and collaboratively in an on-site setting.
• Experience mentoring junior lawyers or law clerks and contributing to a collegial, inclusive workplace.
