Keywords Studios seeks a Quality Assurance Lead (Functionality) to work at the WB Games Montreal studio. The FQA Lead will oversee QA activities across assigned projects, ensuring alignment with project, team, and company objectives.
Responsibilities
- Oversees tester performance and development, conducting regular 1on1s, providing continuous feedback, and mentoring team members while applying disciplinary and/or administrative measures in collaboration with Coordinators.
- Ensures team alignment with project and company goals by assigning tasks based on strengths, performance, and career development objectives.
- Demonstrates strong ownership of QA activities across the full project lifecycle, from Pre-Alpha to Post-Release, including participation in submission processes and milestone sign-offs.
- Manages workload and priorities autonomously, providing clear visibility on progress, risks, and blockers to stakeholders.
- Communicates effectively with production, development, internal teams, and external partners, acting as the main point of contact for QA‑related topics (Certification, Analytics, Localization, Live Operations, etc.).
- Contributes to team discussions and decision‑making by providing insights that help guide project direction and improve outcomes.
- Collaborates with other Leads to ensure balanced workload distribution and proactively supports peers when needed.
- Maintains strong project awareness beyond assigned scope, stepping in to support team continuity and cross‑functional needs when required.
- Produces clear and comprehensive internal reports, including EoD/EoW updates and overall project health summaries.
- Leads meetings with internal and external stakeholders, including preparing agendas, facilitating discussions, and ensuring follow‑ups.
- Manages day‑to‑day QA operations, including task delegation, monitoring progress, and ensuring adherence to testing standards, processes, and best practices.
- Supports staffing plans for assigned projects and provides day‑to‑day coaching and guidance to testers.
- Adheres to project schedules, complies with onsite work requirements, and supports team presence as needed.
- Contributes to continuous improvement of QA processes, policies, and tools across projects.
- Performs additional tasks as required by the Quality Assurance Management team.
Qualifications and Experience
- Minimum of five years of video game testing experience.
- Minimum one year leading teams of testers, either formally or informally.
- High school diploma or equivalent; college or university degree preferred.
- Demonstrably strong familiarity with QA processes and procedures.
- Strong familiarity with the publishing process and all its phases.
- Strong familiarity with all major platforms (Sony, Microsoft, Nintendo, PC and related distribution platforms).
- Proven experience in leading small to large groups of testers.
- Ability to effectively evaluate tester performance and provide meaningful, growth‑oriented feedback.
- Solid PC skills, including using Microsoft Office products, bug‑tracking software, and SDK/debug tools from platform manufacturers.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Comfortable leading discussions and presenting to stakeholders with clarity and confidence.
- Highly autonomous with strong attention to detail.
- Knowledge of video game development industry.
- Ability to communicate in both French and English.
- Management may add or change duties and job requirements at any time.
