Pharmacy Technician - Pharmacy Prescribing Support Team

The Role

Registration as a Pharmacy Technician with the General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC) is essential.

Join NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde as a Pharmacy Technician (Primary Care) and play a vital role in improving patient care across our communities. Working within our Pharmacy Prescribing Support Team, you will collaborate with pharmacists, GP practices and wider health and social care teams to promote safe, effective and economical use of medicines. Duration, Location, and Working Pattern:

• Blair Court
• Monday to Friday, 09:00 to 17:00
• Permanent, full-time

Key Responsibilities

• Support safe, effective and cost-efficient use of medicines across GP practices and care settings
• Collect, analyse and report prescribing and clinical data to inform audits and service improvements
• Assist in implementing prescribing changes and action plans in collaboration with pharmacists and GP teams
• Deliver training and support to healthcare professionals on medicines management and prescribing systems
• Contribute to audits, quality improvement projects and monitoring of prescribing practices
• Liaise with multidisciplinary teams including community pharmacy, care homes and secondary care to ensure continuity of patient care
• Provide guidance on medicines handling, storage, repeat prescribing systems and patient medication queries

Knowledge, training, qualifications and/or experience required to do the job:

• Registered Pharmacy Technician with General Pharmaceutical Council and relevant qualification such as NVQ3 or BTEC in Pharmaceutical Sciences
• Demonstrable understanding of medicines use, prescribing practices and pharmaceutical care
• Knowledge of legal and professional requirements relating to medicines management and patient confidentiality
• Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret data and produce clear, user-friendly reports
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to engage effectively with multidisciplinary teams and patients
• Good IT skills and experience using clinical systems and Microsoft Office applications
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team, managing workload across multiple sites and priorities
