Director, Construction Advisory & Dispute Services

Role Overview

BDO Canada is looking for a Director, Construction Advisory & Dispute Services with extensive experience in construction delay analysis and claims advisory. The successful candidate will own the responsibilities listed below.

Responsibilities

  • Manage projects and monitor the quality of work on construction-related dispute and advisory engagements, including construction delay, lost productivity, time impact studies, project scheduling, project cost assessment, and insurance claims.
  • Lead the planning and execution of construction claim-related services, compiling financial data, performing analysis, and preparing recommendations for dispute management, dispute avoidance, and project planning & controls.
  • Conduct correspondence with clients, contractors, project owners, developers, lawyers, construction teams, insurance adjusters, and internal contacts to discuss file issues and present findings.
  • Develop and maintain client relationships at the highest level, accountable for most operational aspects of client engagement.
  • Attend client sites to perform work when required.
  • Attract and retain top talent to support a sustainable and growing practice.
  • Coach, mentor, and train junior staff; prepare and deliver internal technical training, strategically assign work opportunities, conduct performance reviews, and provide continuous feedback.
  • Participate and lead initiatives in business development within the global BDO network and the marketplace.

Qualifications

  • Degree in Engineering, Construction Management or Quantity Surveying; master’s or postgraduate degree an asset.
  • 10+ years of experience in construction claims advisory and disputes resolution, with demonstrated expertise in delay engagement writing, expert reports, and testimony.
  • Strong analytical, project management and scheduling skills; expert proficiency in Primavera or MS Project.
  • Knowledge of consulting and expert witness roles in construction claims advisory.
  • PQS/MRICS qualified or equivalent certification an asset.
  • Experience in various construction contract types with contract administration and quantity surveying skills.
  • Experience in damage quantification for contractual claims, disputes and litigation an asset.
  • Detail‑oriented, excellent organizational skills, self‑driven and motivated to lead.
  • Willingness to travel within Canada and internationally.
  • Bilingual in English and French required; knowledge of English essential.
