Summary

The Journeyman Hydraulics Technician- Lead Hand performs work in the repair and manufacturing of hydraulic cylinders while meeting customer requirements and any applicable statutory and regulatory requirements. This position obtains information such as job instructions from company documentation, including the “traveller,” and ensures that all work complies with environmental, quality, health, and safety standards. In addition, this role includes supervisory responsibilities for the afternoon shift, providing guidance to team members and ensuring efficient workflow and adherence to company standards.

Job Responsibilities & Duties

• Assemble manufactured hydraulic cylinders as per drawings supplied. Assemble repaired hydraulic cylinders as per the repair process
• Disassemble, clean and inspect hydraulic cylinders and identify the nature and cause of defects or malfunctions with the use of appropriate measuring tools
• Pressure test hydraulic cylinders
• Read and interpret drawings, manuals, specifications, or sample parts to determine dimensions and tolerances of finished workpieces, sequence of operations, tools to be used, materials for the job and setup requirements
• Communicate with the supervisors, coordinators, and other personnel for assignments and to resolve quality issues
• Ensure compliance with all quality, environmental, and health and safety policies, procedures, rules, and regulations
• Prepare technical reports supporting root cause determination
• Meet production schedules and timelines to deliver products on schedule
• Maintain a clean and orderly work area
• Additional duties may be assigned if required.

Leadership & Management Accountabilities

• Lead, motivate and inspire personnel by creating and environment that promotes positive and open communication.
• Provide leadership and support to staff through clear coaching and mentoring, conflict resolution, and effective mediation.
• Evaluate employee performance and provide clear feedback & expectations, via conducting regular quarterly conversations and annual performance reviews.
• Manage, lead and reward individual employee and team performance.
• Provide clear and consistent direction to all direct reports.
• Provide the necessary tools, resources, and training for staff to complete their job responsibilities.
• Manage staffing needs and oversee schedules to provide effective support and resources.
• Empower staff with the confidence, job knowledge and skills to execute their job responsibilities effectively.
• Ensure that departmental initiatives, strategies, and decisions are aligned with the goals and objectives of the company.

Skills and Qualifications

• 3-5+ years work experience in a shop environment
• Journeyperson Industrial Mechanic is required
• Advanced knowledge of reading and interpreting drawings and specifications in support of quality requirements
• Knowledge of precision measuring instruments such as ID and OD micrometers, depth gauges, indicators, and scales
• Ability to determine the kind of tools and equipment required to do the job
• Excellent attention to detail
• Strong communication skills with the ability to read and write English
• Highly organized and self-motivated
• Must be adaptable to changing work environment and competing demands and is able to deal with frequent change, delays, or unexpected events
