Machine Learning Lead, Reinforcement Systems

Lead the development of innovative reinforcement learning systems with Upwork's Algorithms and Research team. This pivotal role entails significant hands-on work, enhancing decision-making across platforms. As Machine Learning Lead, you will drive the design and scalability of intelligent agent systems that support Upwork’s search and AI assistant functionalities. Collaborating with engineering and Trust & Safety teams, you’ll ensure that systems remain robust and interpretable while mentoring fellow engineers to support high-performance outcomes. Key Responsibilities:
- Design advanced reasoning systems for RL and planning
- Construct scalable decision-making architectures
- Oversee the transition of ML models into production
- Partner with research teams to enhance system explainability
- Investigate and implement modern RL techniques
- Proven background in RL systems deployment
- Familiarity with vector and knowledge graph implementations
- Experience leading complex technical projects
- Strong skills in iterative AI model strategies
- Commitment to fostering intelligent system development
