This role provides clear ownership and accountability from project planning through construction, commissioning, and operational handover. The Capital Projects Manager ensures projects are properly scoped, scheduled, budgeted, documented, and executed safely while coordinating contractors, consultants, suppliers, regulators, and internal stakeholders.
Responsibilities
Capital Project Management
- Lead assigned capital projects from planning and construction through commissioning, closeout, and handover to Operations, including coordinating and directing internal labour required to complete project work.
- Develop project scopes, schedules, milestones, budgets, and execution plans.
- Monitor project progress and proactively identify risks, delays, cost pressures, and resource constraints.
- Provide leadership with clear reporting on project progress, budget performance, risks, delays, and key decisions.
- Ensure project decisions are documented and aligned with approved scope, budget, and business objectives.
- Support strong project governance by ensuring change management, scope changes, budget approvals, and delegation of authority requirements are clearly defined, followed, and documented as projects evolve.
- Support effective capital planning by helping define project assumptions, cost estimates, payback inputs, and implementation requirements.
- Ensure capital projects are delivered with appropriate financial oversight and accountability to minimize cost overruns, scope creep, schedule delays, and operational disruption.
Budget, Schedule & Cost Control
- Maintain integrated project schedules covering construction, installation, commissioning, and turnover milestones.
- Manage project budgets, commitments, change orders, projected final costs, and contingency usage throughout the project lifecycle.
- Review contractor invoices, change orders, commitments, and project costs for accuracy and alignment with approved scope.
- Maintain clear financial visibility for each project, including projected final costs and contingency usage.
Contractor, Consultant & Vendor Management
- Manage all contractors, consultants, vendors, and service providers involved in assigned projects.
- Coordinate contractor work plans, schedules, site access, safety requirements, and deliverables.
- Work with internal Kalesnikoff teams to clearly define internal labour and tasks versus external contractor scope.
- Support tendering, equipment sourcing, vendor evaluation, contract coordination, and negotiations where required.
- Ensure contractors and suppliers deliver work in accordance with scope, quality, timeline, safety requirements, and regulatory expectations.
- Maintain contractor governance requirements, including verification of insurance, WorkSafeBC clearance, competency, compliance documentation, and other prequalification requirements to support safe, effective, and accountable project execution.

- Ensure equipment installation requirements are identified early, including civil, mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, hydraulic, controls, utilities, and space planning considerations.
- Coordinate equipment delivery, installation, commissioning readiness, training requirements, documentation, and operational handover.
- Ensure equipment projects include appropriate documentation, drawings, warranties, manuals, training requirements, spare parts information, and maintenance considerations.
- Support smooth integration of new equipment into existing operations while minimizing disruption to production and site activities.
Regulatory Compliance, Permitting & Site Records
- Ensure projects meet applicable regulatory, environmental, permitting, building code, inspection, and jurisdictional requirements.
- Coordinate with internal teams, consultants, contractors, and authorities having jurisdiction to support permitting and inspection requirements.
- Develop and maintain accurate records for Kalesnikoff sites, including underground services, building permits, drawings, compliance upgrades, and related site infrastructure documentation.
- Maintain disciplined site and project records so future projects, inspections, and site decisions are supported by accurate documentation.
Safety Leadership
- Work closely with the Safety department to support incident-free project execution.
- Ensure contractors and internal stakeholders understand and follow Kalesnikoff safety expectations.
- Participate in project risk assessments, pre-job planning, safety meetings, contractor coordination, and issue escalation.
- Model a strong safety-first approach in all project decisions and site activities.
Team Development / Collaboration or Leadership
- Work collaboratively with Operations, Maintenance, Safety, Finance, Engineering, Procurement, Production, and external partners to align project execution with business needs.
- Act as the connecting point between project stakeholders to ensure decisions are coordinated and responsibilities are clear.
- Influence cross-functional teams without always having direct authority.
- Support internal teams in understanding project impacts, timelines, resource needs, and operational readiness requirements.
- Build strong working relationships with contractors, consultants, vendors, regulators, and internal leaders.
- Help create a culture of project ownership, accountability, documentation, and disciplined execution.
Continuous Improvement
- Establish and improve repeatable project management practices for capital projects.
- Identify lessons learned from completed projects and apply them to future work.
- Improve repeatable project controls, reporting, budgeting, contractor management, documentation, and handover processes.
