Job Synopsis
The Indigenous Neighbours Engagement Associate is a full-time role within MCC Ontario’s Indigenous Neighbours Program, focused on fostering meaningful, action-oriented engagement between MCC supporters and Indigenous partners. Guided by MCC Ontario’s five-year strategic plan and the Truth and Reconciliation Commission’s Calls to Action, the Associate supports learning, relationship-building, and collective action that contribute to transformed hearts, strengthened relationships, and systemic change. Working collaboratively with Indigenous partners, faith communities, and young adults, the role helps equip supporters to move from listening to action in ways that promote justice, reconciliation, and mutual trust.
This is a 13 month contract role
MCC is a charitable organization that partners with churches and community organizations worldwide to walk with people who are disadvantaged. MCC supports activities that provide emergency assistance, reduce poverty, and promote healthy communities, sustainable living and alternatives to violence. As an internationally recognized NGO, MCC currently serves in more than 45 countries with over 475 partners, 1,000 staff and 40,000 volunteers.
Additional Details
This role is based in Kitchener, Ontario. This is a hybrid role, with minimum 2 days/week in the office at 50 Kent Ave.
Applicants must be legally able to work in Canada for the duration of their employment. Successful candidates will be required to provide a Police Background Check upon hire.

Required
- Experience working with Indigenous people and communities, with knowledge of Indigenous histories, cultures, justice issues, and political structures.
- Strong relational and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively across diverse cultural, theological, and organizational contexts.
- Proven ability to facilitate dialogue and learning using restorative, justice-oriented approaches.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, including public speaking, teaching, and presentation.
- Solid organizational, administrative, and technological skills to support project coordination and communication.
- Ability to work some evenings and weekends, and to travel within Ontario.
- A Bachelor’s Degree + 1-2 years of related experience or Business Diploma + 5-7 years equivalent experience
Preferred
- Experience speaking, teaching, or facilitating learning on peace and justice topics within church or faith-based settings.
- Experience with adult education principles or program design for adult and young adult learners.
Key Responsibilities Partnership Engagement and Capacity Building
- Build and sustain respectful, reciprocal relationships with Indigenous partners to support shared strategies addressing justice issues, with particular attention to the mass incarceration of Indigenous women.
- Support and equip Anabaptist and other faith leaders to engage meaningfully in Truth and Reconciliation through learning, dialogue, and action.
- Develop and contribute to long-term strategies that engage people under 30 in Truth and Reconciliation work.
- Network and collaborate with other organizations and agencies to strengthen education, advocacy, and social change initiatives.
- Engage churches and faith communities through speaking, teaching, coaching, and resource development, fostering networks and shared goals.
Action Focused Engagement (with a concentration on young adults)
- Research, recommend, and help implement curriculum, educational resources, and engagement strategies that inspire learning and action, with a focus on young adults.
- Deliver, co-deliver, and coordinate in-person and online learning opportunities in Waterloo Region and across Ontario.
- Build education and engagement capacity by helping develop and support a diverse roster of facilitators, particularly emerging leaders under 30.
- In collaboration with Indigenous partners, contribute to long-term advocacy strategies on key issues such as access to clean water and mass incarceration.
- Support MCC Ontario staff learning and engagement related to Truth and Reconciliation, including the annual all-staff learning day.
- Coordinate and support the administration of Indigenous Neighbours educational activities, including logistics, scheduling, and evaluation.

Salary Details
Base salary: $58,208. The salary stated is an annual amount. This role starts on day 1 with a company paid benefit package
Benefits
Group benefits package is employer-paid and includes supplemental medical/dental/vision, life insurance, AD&D, global medical assistance, EAP and RRSP contributions matched - starts on day one.
As this is a contract role, LTD is not a part of the benefit plan.
LTD premiums are the responsibility of all permanent, salaried positions. Premiums are the responsibility of the team member and are paid through salary deduction.
