Job Title: Junior Marine Technician (Apprentice)

Type: Seasonal with completion bonus

Salary: $18.00-$25.00 per hour

Position Overview

We understand the importance of growing and training our marine technicians with top brands in the industry such as Mercury, Mercruiser, Volvo Penta gas & diesel, Raymarine and Garmin. Schooling through these top brands is available to our staff, as well as the ability to work and learn alongside our trained and certified service technicians, advisors, and managers.

Essential Job Functions

· Work with a variety of gas and diesel engines

· Understand principles of marine propulsion, fuel and electrical systems

· Manage work order process end-to-end following industry best practices alongside Service Manager

· Ensure timely and accurate completion of repair orders and completed work

· Perform battery disconnects, winterization and summer commissioning of boats

· Perform diagnostic functions leading to a repair estimate

· Work diligently to ensure proper documentation of completed work, estimates, and recommendations

· Complete water testing of equipment as necessary

· Maintain manufacturer certification as required

· Carry out any other duties that may be requested by the Service Manager

Other Skills and Abilities:

· Continually strive to meet the Marina's standard of customer experience

· Follow, understand and practice all Marina policies and procedures (ex: workplace health and safety, environmental, vacation, time off, etc)

· Report any incidents and/or accidents directly and immediately to your supervisor

Requirements:

· Currently attending school for Marine Mechanics or 1 or more relevant years of practical experience as a marine technician

· Possession of a valid Small Engine Repair Certificate/Diploma preferred

· Possession of a valid G license

· Possession of necessary tools and tool box

· Possession of a valid Pleasure Craft Operators card is an asset

· Possession of a valid First Aid and CPR Certification is an asset

· Must be available to work flexible hours Monday to Friday, including rotating weekends, evenings, and holidays

· Retail marine parts experience is an asset

· Experience in marine industry is an asset including working knowledge of boats and marine systems

· Experience with LightSpeed computer software or a marine oriented POS system considered an asset

· Knowledge of nautical terminology or the ability to learn quickly is an asset

· Must possess superior customer service skills

· Ability to swim and tread water for two minutes is an asset

· Comes to work dressed and prepared accordingly

· Must work well as a team or individually

· Must be computer literate

· Strong verbal and written communication skills

· Detail-oriented and works with a high degree of accuracy

· Ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment

Working Conditions:

· Required to move, lift, carry, pull, and place objects weighing less than or equal to 50lbs without assistance

· Stand, sit, or walk for an extended period or for an entire shift

· Reach overhead and below the knees, including bending, twisting and pulling

· Move over sloping, uneven, or slippery surfaces

· Significant exposure to varying weather conditions

· May encounter excessive noise from boat engines and equipment

· Will encounter obnoxious smell from wastewater, gasoline and diesel fuel

· Will encounter hazardous materials, dangerous or toxic substances and chemicals
