Position Overview

The Student Support Facilitator functions as a member of an interdisciplinary school-based team of professionals and is responsible for providing specialized mental health and student wellness services to First Nations schools in Manitoba. The Student Support Facilitator will provide direct or in-direct services to students, staff and parents to support the unique needs of each child. This will include assessment, programming and therapeutic intervention, and consultative services within the three-tiered service delivery model to enhance access to academics and participation in school.

Education

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Social Work or,
  • Master of Education in Guidance and Counseling


Certification/Licensure/Registration

  • Active registration with the Manitoba College of Social Workers (MCSW) or,
  • Possess (or be eligible for) permanent or provisional certification with Manitoba Education as a School Clinician
  • Valid Class 5 driver’s license, an all-purpose insured vehicle with a minimum of $2,000,000 third-party liability insurance

Qualifications and Skills

  • Knowledge of relevant federal and provincial legislation, Manitoba curriculum frameworks and strategies for implementation, and other support documents relating to Inclusive Education
  • Understanding of and respect for Manitoba First Nations education systems including current developments, reforms, and socio-economic contexts
  • Strong interpersonal and cross-cultural communication skills with the ability to work effectively in First Nations communities
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate and build relationships with children, parents/caregivers, and interdisciplinary professionals
  • Willingness and ability to travel to rural and remote First Nations communities, including overnight and day trips
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, with the ability to convey information in both technical and plain language
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively within an interdisciplinary team
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications
  • Fluency in a First Nations language and/or experience working in First Nations education settings are considered assets
