Care Worker - Beyond the Bell

The Beyond the Bell YMCA Care Worker plays an important role in delivering high-quality after-school learning enrichment experiences for children in Grades 1–3. Working within the school setting, you will create engaging play-based learning opportunities that support academic enrichment, social-emotional development, creativity, and belonging.

As a trusted role model and mentor, you will foster positive relationships with children, families, school staff, and YMCA colleagues while creating a safe, welcoming, and inclusive environment where every child can succeed.

• Reporting To: Site Supervisor


• Location: Raymer Elementary School / Chief Tomat Elementary School


• Schedule: Monday–Friday, 2:00 PM–6:00 PM (20 hours per week)

As a YMCA Care Worker, your work directly supports children's success by helping them develop academic, social, and emotional skills in a positive and supportive after-school environment.

What You Will Do

You will support the delivery of engaging, child-centered programming that promotes learning, well-being, and inclusion.

• Deliver engaging, high-quality, play-based learning experiences for children in Grades 1–3.


• Plan and implement activities that support literacy, numeracy, creativity, physical activity, and social-emotional learning.


• Facilitate inquiry-based learning, collaborative play, creative arts, and enrichment experiences.


• Build positive, supportive relationships with children and serve as a role model and mentor.


• Provide encouragement and additional learning support to children who may benefit from extra assistance.


• Maintain a safe, welcoming, organized, and inclusive program environment.


• Use positive behaviour guidance strategies to support participation and group success.


• Foster strong relationships with families, school staff, and YMCA colleagues.


• Complete attendance records, documentation, and program planning requirements accurately.


• Communicate observations, concerns, and participant updates to the Site Supervisor.


• Support the setup, organization, and maintenance of program materials and learning spaces.

What You Bring

• Minimum six months of experience working with school-age children.


• Current studies or completed education in Education, Child and Youth Care, Recreation, Youth Development, Early Childhood Education, Social Work, or a related field.


• Experience facilitating play-based and child-centered learning experiences.


• Knowledge of inclusive practices and supporting diverse learners.


• Strong communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.


• Ability to work independently while contributing positively to a collaborative team environment.
