Delivery Solution Architect

McKesson

The Sr. Delivery Solution Architect builds and sustains technical architectures that deliver measurable business value across medium to large, cross‑platform initiatives. The role defines principles, guardrails, and standards that guide solution decisions toward the target state; leads fit‑gap assessments; and develops migration plans to close gaps between current and future architectures.

The Architect oversees or consults on implementation and modification activities, creates reference implementations, and ensures designs meet scalability, performance, security, and compliance expectations.

Operating with high autonomy, the Architect harmonizes development work with enterprise architecture, facilitates evaluation of platforms and patterns, and partners with stakeholders to translate business needs into actionable technical solutions. The role proactively identifies architectural risks and mitigation strategies, and communicates complex design decisions and trade‑offs to non‑technical stakeholders.

As an internal consultant and technical leader, the Architect elevates engineering practices, strengthens adherence to standards, and advances roadmap execution in line with McKesson’s strategic priorities.

Key Responsibilities

Set architecture direction and roadmaps

Lead visioning within the domain, perform environmental analysis and develop value cases, align roadmaps and guiding principles with business goals.

Assess capabilities and define priorities

Conduct current state capability, process, and technology assessments, compatibility checks, and fit gap analysis, present capability models and actionable roadmaps.

Design end to end solutions

Develop conceptual and logical architectures, facilitate optioning and recommend designs for sophisticated business problems; validate specifications.

Guide implementation

Coordinate architecture implementation and modification activities, lead troubleshooting, document decisions and recurring error patterns.

Contribute to governance

Define domain principles, standards, and guidelines, socialize and enforce adoption, manage exceptions and conduct quality reviews.

Institutionalize well architected practices

Embed security, reliability, performance, cost, and operations pillars, define domain KPIs/OKRs and recommend adjustments to accelerate value.

Drive improvement and innovation

Evaluate emerging technologies and threats, identify weaknesses and propose improvements, support post implementation optimization.

Influence and coach

Communicate roadmaps, promote DevOps and cloud practices, and mentor team members and peer architects.

Provide compatibility recommendations and contribute to enterprise wide system integration efforts.

Produce deliverables guiding post merger integration and coordinate stakeholders on technology roadmaps.

Minimum Job Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills, & Amabilities)

  • Advanced enterprise architecture literacy (TOGAF 10 concepts, ADM, governance) to structure standards, decision frameworks, and target‑state roadmaps.
  • Architecture visualization proficiency using C4 model views (context, container, component) to communicate designs clearly across audiences.
  • Well‑Architected fluency across security, reliability, performance efficiency, cost optimization, and operations; ability to translate pillars into domain KPIs/OKRs.
  • IT service management alignment (ITIL 4 SVS/practices) to ensure supportability, governance linkages, and operational excellence.
  • Secure‑by‑design orientation with practical application of OWASP Top 10 controls in solution and integration patterns.
  • Integration and data design depth across APIs and eventing; ability to evaluate patterns against scalability, latency, resilience, and compliance needs.
  • Strong decision‑making and storytelling skills, ability to frame options, trade‑offs, and risks with clear narratives for technical and non‑technical stakeholders.
  • Delivery partnership, comfort guiding CI/CD, IaC, and observability practices to ensure safe delivery and operability.
  • Vendor and tool evaluation skills to recommend domain tooling aligned with enterprise standards and roadmaps.

Business Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience; typically 7+ years across solution architecture/engineering with sustained delivery of enterprise‑scale designs.
  • Experience leading medium‑to‑large, cross‑platform initiatives, guiding architecture from assessment and roadmap through implementation in regulated or complex environments.
  • Evidence of standards authorship and governance (principles, guardrails, exceptions) and portfolio‑level quality reviews.
  • Proven collaboration with product, engineering, security, and operations teams to operationalize target architectures and deliver measurable business outcomes.
