Director, Reliability Engineering (North York)

Job Summary

The Director, Reliability Engineering is responsible for implementing and leading strategies to maximize uptime, performance and lifespan of assets, and reducing likelihood of failure by applying reliability engineering principles across all Apotex Global Operations (AGO) global sites. This role defines, develops and executes the Reliability Strategy for all GMP and non‑GMP assets critical to operations across all AGO sites, working with international site engineering leads to strengthen and harmonize the reliability program, ensuring alignment of practices and synergy globally. It leads root cause analysis and corrective action, drives predictive and preventive maintenance programs, implements digital reliability tools, and optimizes asset performance while ensuring regulatory compliance. As a member of the Apotex Engineering Leadership Team, the Director participates in the development, articulation and implementation of good engineering practices that are consistent across the organisation and meet regulatory requirements.

Job Responsibilities

  • Lead the Reliability team in the development and utilization of systems, methodologies, processes and software for the management and execution of Reliability projects and programs.
  • Drive change by championing reliability fundamentals and methodologies, fostering a culture of ReliabilityCentred Maintenance to achieve Global Supply operations core strategic plan objectives and operational excellence.
  • Establish an operational Reliability toolbox using tools such as KPIs, RCM, TPM, MTBF, RCA, FMEA, OEE, predictive maintenance, performance trending, and drive the propagation of Reliability thinking and consistency of practices across GSO sites globally.
  • Identify Reliability best practices across sites, ensuring alignment and synergies.
  • Provide guidance and mentor the Reliability team on work‑related reliability processes, practices and compliance issues.
  • Deliver maximum efficiency, effectiveness, reliability, availability and safety for all assets.
  • Establish and implement periodic monitoring and evaluation programs to benchmark performance and assess compliance of maintenance and reliability practices.
  • Engage with industry experts to stay current on best practices and embed new reliability engineering advancements into continuous improvement objectives.
  • Lead targeted continuous improvement initiatives aligned with business strategic targets, measuring and benchmarking asset/system performance against targets using industry best practice.
  • Support the development of capital plans and capital decisions through an equipment lifecycle program that leverages analytics of KPIs, obsolescence and asset performance.
  • Proactively build cooperative cross‑functional relationships with Apotex Global Supply Operations, API, Quality, GR&D, GIS and other customer groups to execute projects focused on continuous improvement and reliability of equipment and facilities.
  • Develop a strong safety culture that encourages taking the right amount of time to perform each task safely.
  • Participate and lead performance conversations with employees, including monthly one‑on‑ones, to connect on performance, check progress toward Objectives, offer support and remove barriers, and communicate expectations to reinforce a high‑performance and safe culture.
  • Utilize open, honest, two‑way communication to build trust‑based relationships with employees, business partners and direct leaders while continuously improving leadership capabilities by seeking feedback and development.

Job Requirements

Education

  • Bachelor of Engineering Degree or equivalent related field.
  • Training in Reliability Engineering Principles and Practices.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Proven history in leading Reliability initiatives, streamlining processes and translating gaps into solutions.
  • Experience with CMMS / SAP systems.
  • Familiar with Industry 4.0 technologies and digital reliability tools.
  • Strong organisational, interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to actively and cooperatively work with cross‑functional teams.

Experience

  • 10–15 years of related experience in maintenance, reliability or asset management.
  • Experience with reliability methodologies (RCM, FMEA, TPM) and predictive maintenance technologies.
