Staff Identity Access Engineer

Build secure authentication and authorization platforms as a Staff Software Engineer with Brex in Vancouver, using backend systems and APIs. This hybrid role combines office collaboration with home flexibility.Brex’s Identity and Access Management team owns login methods, step-up authentication, custom authorization, delegated access, and vendor integrations. As a Staff Engineer, you will lead initiatives improving security, reliability, and developer experience across identity platforms. You will work with engineers across Brex while shaping technical quality and platform evolution.Key Responsibilities:
Design backend systems and APIs for authentication and authorizationLead projects from technical design through operational supportImprove SSO, MFA, delegated access, and enterprise identity flowsBuild authorization supporting custom roles and resource-aware controlsMentor engineers and improve system reliability and maintainabilityRequirements:
Strong fundamentals building reliable production backend systemsExperience leading complex projects and mentoring engineersStrong API design, testing, code quality, and documentation skillsUnderstanding of authentication, authorization, sessions, tokens, MFA, SSO, OAuth, SAML, OIDC, or RBACClear communication and effective cross-functional technical collaborationLead Brex identity engineering through secure APIs, authorization systems, operational excellence, and stronger developer experiences in Vancouver.
