The Opportunity:

Emera Energy is currently seeking a Co-op, Corporate Accounting student for the Winter 2027 term (Jan 4 – April 30, 2027) with our Corporate Finance team. This 16-week opportunity provides hands-on experience in financial reporting, settlement processes, and accounting operations within a dynamic corporate environment.

In this role, you will gain valuable exposure to month-end close processes, financial analysis, customer service, and corporate accounting activities while working closely with professionals across the organization.

What you'll do:

As a co-op student, you will contribute to key accounting processes and support financial operations within the Corporate Finance team. This includes:

• Prepare monthly journal entries and support general ledger monitoring, including full working paper and audit file preparation, account reconciliations, and analysis
• Assist with settlement activities, including reconciliation of invoice information with counterparties, invoice payment processing, and monitoring bank account activity
• Process invoice and settlement transactions while ensuring accuracy and completeness
• Work closely with internal departments to resolve settlement discrepancies and support efficient workflows
• Prepare government and regulatory reports related to business activities
• Provide customer service support through telephone and email communications
• Assist with routine and ad hoc financial reporting, analysis, and special projects

Who you are:

You're a proactive and detail-oriented student in your 3rd or 4th year of an undergraduate degree in Accounting, looking to develop your accounting knowledge and gain meaningful corporate finance experience in a collaborative environment.

You bring:

• Strong quantitative, analytical, and organizational skills with a high attention to detail
• Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, deadline-driven, team-focused environment
• Strong business acumen and a customer-focused mindset
• Ability to handle confidential information with professionalism and discretion
• Strong knowledge of Microsoft Excel and experience working with financial reporting systems
• Strong written and verbal communication skills
