Location Export Development Canada operates in a hybrid work environment, with a current requirement of two days per week increasing to three days per week in September 2026 (subject to change).
This role can be performed from EDC’s headquarters in Ottawa or from one of our Community Hubs located in Toronto, Montreal, Quebec City, Winnipeg, Saskatoon, Regina, Calgary, Edmonton, Halifax, or Vancouver.

Team Overview The International Trade Guarantee (ITG) team helps Canadian companies access the bank guarantee and bonding solutions they need to pursue opportunities in international markets. Working closely with financial institutions and internal partners, the team delivers solutions that support Canadian exporters as they grow internationally while enabling EDC to manage risk responsibly. As part of ITG, you would join a cooperative team that plays an important role in helping customers navigate trade opportunities with confidence.
Responsibilities Manage a portfolio of underwriting files and support transactions through their full lifecycle, from early assessment and structuring through issuance and ongoing risk management. Assess credit and non-credit risks and recommend appropriate mitigants to support sound underwriting decisions. Structure transactions to meet customer needs while aligning with EDC’s risk policies, procedures and requirements, including pricing, documentation, and stakeholder coordination.
Apply EDC policies, procedures, risk requirements, and relevant regulatory expectations when assessing and structuring transactions.
Build and maintain strong relationships with business development partners, with customers, financial institutions, sureties, and other internal partners to deliver responsive, practical underwriting solutions and support strong client outcomes.
Support continuous improvement by sharing feedback on underwriting processes, tools, and ways of working.
Depending on your level, manage files of increasing complexity, autonomy, and visibility—from supporting routine transactions with guidance at levels 14–15, to independently handling standard to moderately complex work at level 16 and 17, to leading and advising on more complex or irregular transactions at level 18.
Qualifications Undergraduate degree in Business Administration, Accounting, Finance, Commerce, or another relevant discipline.
Knowledge of underwriting, financial analysis, transaction structuring, and/or contract bonding principles and practices.
Strong analytical thinking, sound judgment, and the ability to make clear, well-supported recommendations.
Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to build effective relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
Experience Requirements Underwriter 14: Typically 1–2 years of relevant experience. You may be early in your underwriting or financial risk career, with experience supporting routine files or transactions and applying established processes with guidance.
Underwriter 15: Typically 2+ years of relevant experience. You bring experience managing routine underwriting or risk-related work with growing independence and can apply established frameworks to common transaction scenarios.
Underwriter 16: Typically 2–5 years of relevant experience. You can independently manage routine to moderately complex files, contribute to more complex analyses with guidance, and communicate recommendations clearly.
Underwriter 17: Typically 5+ years of relevant experience. You bring strong underwriting experience handling increasingly complex transactions, with the judgment and confidence to lead analyses, navigate challenge, and defend recommendations in broader forums.
Underwriter 18: Typically 7+ years of relevant experience. You bring deep underwriting expertise and experience with complex, high-risk, or high-visibility transactions, along with the credibility and interpersonal effectiveness to influence across the organization and coach others.

Bilingual in both official languages (French and English).
