Reporting to the Manager, Indigenous Relations, you’ll work as part of a collaborative and specialized Indigenous Relations team and partner across the organization to support meaningful engagement and service improvements. Your work will contribute to identifying and addressing barriers, strengthening relationships, and supporting WorkSafeBC’s ongoing commitment to reconciliation.
This role calls for cultural humility, thoughtful relationship-building, and the ability to work with care and respect in complex and sensitive environments.
We have one vacancy that will work out of one of the following locations: Richmond, Kelowna, Kamloops, Nanaimo, Courtenay, Surrey.
How you’ll make a difference: You’ll help WorkSafeBC engage in meaningful reconciliation and relationship building with Indigenous communities.
Where you’ll work
At WorkSafeBC, we offer a hybrid work model that combines working remotely, and in our offices based on the operational needs of the position.
- Build and sustain respectful, reciprocal relationships with Indigenous workers, employers, service providers, and communities, supporting meaningful engagement and trust.
- Support Indigenous clients in navigating WorkSafeBC systems (Claims, Prevention, and Assessments), ensuring their experience is clear, coordinated, and culturally respectful.
- Collaborate across internal teams to support Indigenous clients through complex or sensitive situations, helping ensure timely, responsive, and appropriate service.
- Identify barriers and service gaps impacting Indigenous clients and contribute to solutions that improve access, inclusion, and overall service experience.
- Provide guidance to internal staff on culturally respectful approaches when working with Indigenous clients and communities, supporting greater awareness and consistency across the organization.
- Lead or support Indigenous engagement initiatives and projects, including planning, coordination with partners, and contributing to ongoing improvement of programs and services.
- Consistently models the appropriate level of organizational behaviours expected of all WorkSafeBC employees: responsive, respectful, fair, collaborative, accountable, and forward thinking.
We’re Looking For Someone Who Can
- Demonstrate respect for Indigenous cultures, values, and perspectives, and approach the work with openness, humility, and a willingness to learn.
- Build and maintain meaningful relationships through listening, trust, and collaboration.
- Work effectively across teams and systems to support positive and respectful outcomes.
- Use sound judgment and thoughtful problem-solving in complex or evolving situations.
- Communicate clearly and respectfully with diverse audiences, including Indigenous clients, communities, and internal partners.
- Approach sensitive situations with care, professionalism, and discretion.
- Take initiative to identify opportunities to improve services and experiences for Indigenous clients.
Your Background And Experience

- A minimum of 6 years of experience in Indigenous relations, consulting, prevention, or disability management.
- Demonstrates a deep understanding of Indigenous issues and an appreciation of the complexity and diversity of Indigenous Peoples and communities across BC.
