Role Responsibilities

Join Our Dynamic Team as a Plant Health Lab Technologist! As a Plant Health Lab Technologist in the Alberta Government's Agriculture and Irrigation ministry, you will be an integral part of a team dedicated to advancing agricultural science and plant health. This role offers a unique blend of laboratory work and field involvement, making every day both challenging and rewarding. Summary of Duties and Responsibilities:

• Engage in tissue culture activities, supporting the Seed Potato Repository's daily operations, including maintenance and verification studies
• Conduct detailed laboratory analyses and tests on plant samples, focusing on diseases, pests, and other health issues.
• Participate in fieldwork for sample collection and environmental monitoring, crucial for laboratory analysis.
• Collaborate in plant pest surveys and monitoring activities throughout Alberta.
• Contribute to greenhouse and field trials, ensuring laboratory efficiency with equipment maintenance and record keeping.
• Work closely with scientists, technicians, and field experts in developing and implementing plant health strategies.
• Prepare and present detailed reports to both technical and non-technical audiences, enhancing the knowledge base in plant health.

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements:

• A Bachelors degree in a related field (agricultural science, environmental science, biology, or a closely related discipline).
• A Class 5 Alberta Driver's License.

An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered Assets:

• Practical experience in crop scouting, monitoring, or surveillance.
• Experience in sample collection, using mapping applications, and maintaining plants in controlled environments.
• Additional certifications or training relevant to plant health or laboratory technology.
• Experience working in a government or large organizational setting.
