Rams Engineer For Rail System Operational Safety (Mississauga)

Main Tasks and Responsibilities

  • Provide Delivery Partner oversight of System Safety Assurance and RAMS activities across the full system lifecycle, ensuring alignment with EN 50126 / View phone number on ca.talent.com, client requirements, and contract obligations.
  • Review and challenge the project delivery entity’s Safety Assurance Plans, RAM Plans (HW/SW), and System Safety Program Plans for adequacy, consistency, and contractual compliance.
  • Monitor and assess the implementation of RAMS processes across the V‑cycle, including requirement decomposition, allocation, verification, and validation.
  • Review and challenge RAM quantitative targets, allocation strategies, RAM demonstration plans, and FRACAS implementation.
  • Ensure the adequacy and consistency of safety analyses produced by the project delivery entity and suppliers, including PHA, SHA, SSHA, IHA, OSHA, FMEA/FMECA, FTA, ETA, RBD, and CCF.
  • Support the review and acceptance of System Safety Cases, in coordination with the Independent Safety Assessor and key stakeholders.
  • Oversee governance of hazard logs, safety databases, and requirements management tools (e.g. DOORS NG), ensuring traceability, audit readiness, and alignment with assurance expectations.
  • Ensure Human Factors and Human Reliability considerations are appropriately addressed and integrated into system safety assurance activities.
  • Represent the Delivery Partner RAMS and safety assurance function in project governance forums, working groups, and assurance reviews.
  • Act as a key technical interface between AECOM (DP), the client, the project delivery entity, suppliers, and the Independent Safety Assessor.
  • Provide clear, evidence‑based assurance advice to the System Assurance Lead to support risk‑informed decision‑making.

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Engineering Degree in a relevant engineering discipline (mechanical, electrical, etc.)
  • 6+ years of relevant experience in Rail Safety Assurance & RAM.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Strong experience across the rail system lifecycle, with deep knowledge of EN 50126, EN 50128, EN 50129, and familiarity with EN 50159, AREMA, IEEE, MIL-STD-882, and ISO 15288.
  • Practical understanding of RAMS quantitative analysis, RAM demonstration, FRACAS, and lifecycle assurance in major rail infrastructure projects.
  • Proven experience reviewing and assuring Safety Case development under EN 50129.
  • Robust familiarity with safety analysis methods and tools used in rail and transit projects.
  • Experience with requirements and hazard management tools (e.g. DOORS) and assurance data governance.
  • Demonstrated experience supporting safety certification and independent assurance processes on complex railway projects.
  • Solid understanding of complex system architectures, interfaces, and multidisciplinary integration.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder‑management skills, with the ability to provide clear, authoritative technical challenge in a client‑facing Delivery Partner role.
  • Collaborative, structured, and proactive mindset, suited to high‑profile, multi‑party infrastructure programs.
