Detox Management Unit Supervisor

Detox Unit Supervisor Under the direction, and in consultation with the Nurse Practitioner and Management Team.

Position Overview:

Engage in a working supervisor role; providing direct care

Oversee and ensure that the highest standards of care for the patient’s holistic health needs are met in a safe and nurturing environment

Model professional conduct

Ensure policies and procedures are being followed

Maintain a safe, well functioning care unit within the required health standards

Integrate Aurora’s Purpose, Principles, and Philosophies into member’s care plan

Promote a safe, respectful, team-friendly approach in the workplace

Ensure all nursing staff are aware of and adhering to ARC’s DMU Policies, Procedures and Protocols

Ensure infection control standards are met

Ensure PHIA is adhered to

Ensure patients are treated with respect and dignity

Work collaboratively with all ARC staff and in the best interest of its patients

Responsibilities:

Provide a minimum of 40 hours per week of direct care, being the primary nurse on shift

Ensure continual delivery of high quality nursing care

Adopt and implement innovative nursing practices to improve our facility

Ensure that nursing staff remains in compliance with professional development and regulatory standards

Maintain a healthy, collaborative team environment

Develop nursing care plans for patients using a patient-centered approach

Monitor patient activity, identify needs of patients, and ensure managers and co-workers are aware of the same

Implement DMU withdrawal protocols in a competent manner

Utilize superior interpersonal communication skills with patients, co-workers and management

Participate in health and nursing related discharge planning

Complete all patient file documentation in accordance with ARC policies and procedures

Work collaboratively with all ARC staff and in the best interests of the patients

Manage patient medications through the complete cycle of ordering from the pharmacy, verifying medication, and ensuring quality and safety of the med rooms throughout the building

Provide medical treatments as ordered by Nurse Practitioners and/or physicians

Order pharmacy stock and patient medication as directed

Scheduling of all nursing and detox staff

Provide guidance, support, and supervision to patients, counselling and support staff, and practicum students thru casual and intentional interaction and role-modelling

Review a sample of patient files weekly to ensure key information is entered in the files

Maintain applicable CARF accreditation standards

Emergency oversight: Lead/oversee medical emergencies, ensure staff competency in CPR/Naloxone, and manage critical incident reviews

Performance management: Conduct evaluations, address disciplinary issues, and monitor staff competency

Quality improvement: Track incidents, medication errors, AMA rates, and participate in continuous quality improvement

Staff training & orientation: Oversee onboarding and ongoing education

Demonstrate trauma-informed & harm reduction care approach

Qualifications:

5+ years nursing experience in a medical setting

Excellent interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills

Able to work efficiently under time constraints

Strong leadership skills and ability to work collaboratively with a large team

Able to handle multiple assignments simultaneously

Demonstrate knowledge of the concepts of resistance, engagement, and resilience as these relate to people with addictions and co-occurring mental health disorders

Possess an empathic presence balanced by assertiveness and willingness to probe

Demonstrate experience with goal setting and problem solving

Demonstrate ability and willingness to work as a team member

Physical Demands and Working Conditions: Must be in good physical and mental health. May encounter aggressive and/or agitated members/visitors/staff. May be exposed to infectious diseases, blood and body fluids, toxic materials, noise, allergens, and physical and emotional stress. May be occasionally required to work extended hours. May be required to work evening and weekend shifts.
