Job Summary

Reporting to the Provincial Manager of the Provincial Medical Communications Centre (PMCC), the Clinical Support Paramedic works within the NL Health Services’ PMCC Clinical Hub. This role, in collaboration with the Medical Transport Physician, is responsible for assessing the clinical needs of interfacility emergency and urgent transfers, as well as 911 calls from patients in the community. As the Clinical Hub evolves, so too will the role of the Clinical Support Paramedic, which includes providing clinical advice and triage to both internal and external partners. The position requires the use of professional clinical judgment and active collaboration with clinicians and health care facilities at all levels across Newfoundland and Labrador, in a dynamic, fast paced environment. In addition, the Clinical Support Paramedic contributes to broader initiatives that support the ongoing development and success of both the Clinical Hub and the PMCC program.

Job Qualifications

• Successful completion of an approved/recognized Advanced Care Paramedic (ACP) program is required.
• Current registration with the NL Paramedicine Regulation as an ACP.
• A minimum five years experience, with at least the last three years in a frontline patient care role within a high call-volume, performance-based EMS system, is required.
• A well-established record of clinical competence, including safe, effective, and evidence-based patient care, is required.
• Successful completion of CritiCall aptitude testing is required. Testing will be administered by Human Resources.
• Current certification in ACLS, ATLS, PTLS, and PALS is required. Instructor-level certification is considered an asset.
• Previous training or certification in clinical support roles or critical care paramedicine is considered an asset.
• Emergency Medical Dispatcher (EMD) certification with the International Academy of Emergency Dispatch (IAED) is considered an asset.
• Computer literacy in a Windows environment is required; strong general computer skills are essential to set foundation for competency in Computer-Aided Dispatch (CAD) and communication center technologies (e.g., telecommunications equipment, audio recorders) is required.
• Excellent interpersonal, leadership, clinical assessment, communication skills (both oral and written) as well as customer service skills are required. Demonstrated commitment to professional conduct and ongoing professional development, including participation in quality improvement initiatives within a system-based care model.
• Familiarity with ground and air ambulance operations, as well as the associated operational and clinical policies, procedures, and protocols relevant to paramedicine and medical transport, is expected.
• A satisfactory record of work performance and attendance is required.
• A satisfactory certificate of conduct from the RCMP or local police authority;
