Certified Personal Trainer — Subcontractor

Beyond Fitness is a private, appointment-based personal training studio in Victoria, British Columbia. We are expanding our team and looking for certified personal trainers who want to build a meaningful, ongoing client caseload in a professional and collaborative environment.

Our clientele is made up primarily of adults in midlife and beyond. Many of our clients want to build or maintain strength, improve their health, manage physical limitations, continue participating in activities they enjoy, and protect their long-term independence. We also work with teenagers, recreational athletes, busy professionals, and clients with a wide range of experience levels and goals.

Unlike many fitness facilities, Beyond Fitness provides trainers with clients and administrative support. Our trainers are not expected to sell memberships, prospect on the gym floor, or build a clientele entirely from scratch. This allows them to focus their time and energy on providing excellent coaching and developing strong, lasting relationships with their clients.

Responsibilities

• Deliver individualized one-on-one, partner, and potentially small-group personal training sessions

• Design safe, effective, evidence-based programs based on each client’s goals, abilities, experience, health history, and physical limitations

• Coach clients with a wide variety of needs, including strength development, healthy aging, general fitness, injury recovery, mobility, balance, and improved function

• Modify exercises and programs appropriately as clients’ needs and abilities change

• Track client progress and maintain accurate, timely client notes

• Communicate professionally and reliably with clients, the administrative team, and other coaches

• Coordinate scheduling with clients within your stated availability

• Collaborate with Beyond Fitness trainers, our Athletic Therapist, and other members of the team when appropriate

• Help create a welcoming, supportive, and professional experience for every client

• Maintain all required certifications, insurance, and professional standards

Qualifications

• A recognized personal training certification is required

• A degree, diploma, or additional education in kinesiology, exercise science, athletic therapy, strength and conditioning, or a related field is strongly preferred

• Personal training or coaching experience is an asset, although we will consider a less-experienced trainer with strong education, professionalism, and coaching potential

• Strong communication and relationship-building skills

• Reliable, organized, punctual, and able to manage client scheduling and follow-up

• Comfortable working with adults in midlife and beyond, including clients with varying abilities and physical limitations

• Receptive to feedback and interested in continued professional development

Availability

We are seeking trainers with consistent availability on at least three days per week, with four or more days preferred.

• Early mornings beginning around 5:30 a.m.

• Afternoons and evenings, particularly between approximately 1:00 and 8:00 p.m.

• Saturdays

Candidates may offer any useful combination of these times, including mornings on some days and evenings on others. Consistency and the ability to build an ongoing client schedule are important.

Compensation and Structure

• Independent subcontractor position

• Compensation ranges from $35 to $60 per hour, depending on qualifications, experience, and the type of session delivered

• No membership sales or gym-floor prospecting
