As the Director of Care, you will contribute to the Extendicare purpose of Helping People Live Better by leading a high‑performing team dedicated to ensuring all residents receive the care they need. The DOC is a highly skilled and compassionate leader who directs the care team in delivering exceptional resident‑centered care at a long‑term care home.

Key Outcomes
- Serve as a strong advocate for resident safety and the ongoing improvement of quality care.
- Attain high resident and family engagement as measured through Experience Survey results.
- Consistently meet or exceed all quality and clinical indicators for residents.
- Foster a positive culture and employee experience, driving an increase in overall employee engagement compared to the previous year.
- Ensure adherence to regulatory compliance regarding resident plans of care and organizational standards, policies, and procedures.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the resident care team, providing day‑to‑day guidance and fostering a positive work environment that encourages collaboration, accountability, and high performance.
- Train all care staff, ensuring they receive the education required for effective performance and promoting professional development.
- Manage the care staff complement consistent with the Extendicare model of care, oversee financial management, and assist with budget preparation and variance analysis of the nursing department.
- Monitor and ensure compliance with all healthcare regulations, licensing requirements, accreditation standards, and labour and employment standards.
- Identify and manage resident issues, mitigate clinical risks, and take immediate action on critical incidents.
- Apply a customer‑service mindset, respond to feedback from residents, families, vendors, and team members with acknowledgement and empathy.
- Oversee resident assessment and care planning processes, ensuring personalized care plans are developed and implemented based on resident preferences.
- Collaborate actively with the leadership team, liaising with care staff, residents, and families to deliver and optimize resident care.
- Implement quality improvement initiatives to enhance resident safety, wellness, and satisfaction.
- Support home‑level strategic priorities by developing operational plans for clinical operations and staffing.
- Engage vendors on quality initiatives and training requirements, and collaborate with community health partners for the betterment of resident care.
- Uphold and promote the organization’s mission, vision, values, and ethics.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Nursing; Master’s degree preferred.
- Current and unrestricted registration as a Registered Nurse with the applicable provincial licensing body.
- Minimum of 5 years of nursing experience, including at least 2 years in a leadership role in a long‑term care facility or other health facility.
- Working knowledge of long‑term care regulations, standards, and best practices.
- Demonstrated expertise in leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively with interdisciplinary teams and build positive relationships.
- Proven track record of implementing quality improvement initiatives and achieving positive resident outcomes.
- Proficient in electronic health records (EHR) systems and other relevant technology.
