Job Description & Requirements

Purpose of Position

The Educational Assistant - Career Technologist provides support to Brandon School Division students in career preparation for graduation, post-secondary education and entering the workforce.

Duties and Responsibilities

Are established by the Assistant Superintendent within the parameters of the job profile.

NOTE: Positions under the EA classification are subject to change based on student needs.

Required Qualifications

• Grade 12 education or equivalent.
• Educational Assistant Certificate or equivalent 1 to 2 years related experience.
• Demonstrated ability to follow standardized work methods and processes while working with children to support learning.
• Class 5 Driver’s license
• Demonstrated ability to function in the language of classroom instruction.
• Demonstrated ability to function at the level of knowledge required of the students, e.g., in English, Mathematics, etc.
• Effective basic reading, writing and mathematical skills.
• Computers are used for a variety of activities in a number of different situations.
• The successful candidate must be able to work with students and prepare suitable materials (a counselor is likely to review a presentation prior to handing over the document to a student).
• Demonstrated knowledge of post-secondary education policies and procedures.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills (written and verbal).

Preferred Qualifications

• WHMIS training.
• A good understanding of community-based programs.
• Flexibility in assisting teachers and students.
• Experience in providing assistance with provincial program Xello.
