Advocis Broker Services (ABS) is a boutique insurance brokerage serving financial advisors, planners, and financial services organizations across Canada. Our core business is errors and omissions (E&O) insurance, alongside professional liability and commercial insurance solutions that protect individual advisors and their businesses.

ABS is a wholly owned subsidiary of Advocis, The Financial Advisors Association of Canada. We operate as an independent brokerage with a team of six, close client relationships, and a collaborative approach to serving clients.

The role

ABS is seeking a licensed Commercial Insurance Broker to generate and win new business. You will find and develop prospective clients, understand their risks, recommend suitable insurance solutions, and bring opportunities through to placement. You will also work with colleagues to identify ways ABS can better serve and grow its relationships with existing clients.

This is a hands-on producer role. You will own your prospecting activity, pipeline, and new business results while remaining involved in submissions, insurer discussions, placements, and the transition to ongoing client service. You will work closely with the brokerage team in all aspects of the sales process.

The role reports to the Director, Brokerage.

What you will do

Win new clients and business

• Build a pipeline of prospective financial advisors, advisory firms, distribution networks, and other organizations whose risks align with ABS's offerings.
• Generate opportunities through direct outreach, referrals, industry relationships, events, and follow-up with prospective clients.
• Meet with prospects to understand their activities, business structure, insurance requirements, and risk exposures.
• Recommend suitable coverage and explain material terms, limits, exclusions, and differences between options.
• Prepare and present proposals, respond to questions, negotiate with insurers, and move suitable opportunities through to placement.
• Maintain accurate records of sales activity, pipeline stages, expected revenue, and next steps.

Grow ABS’s existing business

• Work with colleagues to identify current clients who may need additional or different coverage as their practices or businesses evolve.
• Develop suitable opportunities for higher coverage limits and additional products, including corporate E&O, cyber and privacy, directors and officers, and other relevant commercial insurance.
• Build lasting relationships with the clients you bring to ABS and remain involved in significant coverage decisions and growth opportunities.
• Coordinate with colleagues responsible for ongoing service and renewals so clients receive a consistent experience.

Place coverage and support clients

• Prepare complete underwriting submissions and work with insurers and MGAs to obtain appropriate coverage terms.
• Coordinate quotations, binding, policy documentation, certificates, and endorsements as needed to move new business forward accurately and on time.
• Help resolve coverage or claims questions involving clients you have developed, working with the appropriate ABS colleagues and insurer partners.
• Document client discussions, recommendations, disclosures, and decisions in ABS's brokerage systems.

Represent ABS responsibly

• Develop strong working relationships with underwriters, insurer partners, referral sources, and colleagues across ABS and Advocis.
• Keep current on insurer appetite, coverage developments, and regulatory requirements relevant to the role.
• Follow ABS's licensing, privacy, disclosure, documentation, and conflict management requirements.
• Provide licensed brokerage support for existing clients during colleagues’ absences or periods of high demand, while maintaining your primary focus on new business development.

What you bring

• An active RIBO licence in good standing.
• Commercial insurance brokerage experience with a demonstrated ability to generate and close new business.
• Working knowledge of professional liability and E&O insurance, with the ability to learn the particular risks faced by financial advisors and their businesses.
• Experience developing referral relationships and managing a pipeline from first contact through placement.
• Confidence discussing coverage with clients and negotiating terms with underwriters.
• Strong documentation habits, sound judgment, and comfort using brokerage management systems and insurer portals.
• The initiative to work independently and the willingness to collaborate closely in a six-person team.

Experience with financial advisor E&O, corporate E&O, cyber, directors and officers, or other commercial coverages is an asset. CAIB, CIP, CRM, or a comparable designation and French-language skills are also assets.

How success will be measured

Your primary measures of success will be new clients, new business revenue, pipeline development, and conversion of suitable opportunities. Success also includes appropriate growth within ABS's existing client base, quality of placements and documentation, client experience, and effective collaboration with the brokerage team.
