Community Safety Analyst

Job Information

Located in Yellowknife and reporting to the Manager, Community Programs, as the Community Safety Analyst , you will lead the development, implementation, and evaluation of crime prevention and crime reduction initiatives focused on firearms, organized crime, gangs, and illegal drug trafficking in the Northwest Territories. Working closely with federal, provincial, territorial, Indigenous, community, and enforcement partners, you will support collaborative efforts to enhance public safety and reduce criminal activity through prevention, intervention, and enforcement strategies.

You will serve as the primary liaison for partner agencies involved in addressing firearm and organized crime, leading the development of information-sharing agreements, researching legislation and policy options, and preparing reports, action plans, and recommendations. You will also coordinate stakeholder training, facilitate participation in working groups, and support the implementation of community-based programs and targeted strategies designed to prevent and disrupt organized crime and violent crime across the NWT.

Through strategic partnerships, research, and program development, you will help strengthen information sharing, improve stakeholder coordination, and support initiatives that promote safer and more resilient communities.

Knowledge and Skills
- Proven experience and training in the field of law enforcement and corrections. 
- Knowledge of northern institutions, corporations, government systems and communities, as well as the ability to interact with Federal and GNWT departments, Indigenous organizations, community organizations and the various business communities. 
- Sound knowledge of acts, regulations and policies related to the criminal justice system. 
- Knowledge and understanding of the NWT justice system. 
- Strong analytical skills, as well as a demonstrated ability to express ideas, negotiate and communicate effectively; the ability to analyze critically and suggest an appropriate means of action, sometimes in a short time frame.

Key Qualifications
The completion of a degree in a social science filed (criminology, sociology, social work,  public safety, social justice and community, community and justice services, criminal justice, indigenous justice) and 5 years practical experience in the justice system.

Acceptable Equivalency
The completion of a degree in a social science filed (criminology, sociology, social work,  public safety, social justice and community, community and justice services, criminal justice, indigenous justice) and 7 years practical experience in the justice system.
