Job Summary The Centre for Learning and Teaching (CLT) works in partnership with academic units, faculty members, and graduate students to enhance the practice and scholarship of learning and teaching at Dalhousie University through an evidence-based approach to enhance the Dalhousie learning environment. Reporting to the Director of CLT with operational oversight from the Senior Educational Developer (Program Development), the Educational Developer - Program Development (Micro-Credentials and Non-Credit) will support the pedagogical work involved in creating, modifying and reviewing credit programs across the university. As part of this work, the Educational Developer will identify opportunities for non-credit credential creation within new and existing for-credit programs, and work with units and faculties to develop new provision. Key Responsibilities - Work closely with units and instructors to provide pedagogical guidance regarding new and revised credit programs, under the strategic direction of the Senior Education Developer (Program Development).
- Advise Faculties and Units on the development and implementation of non-credit micro-credentials, courses, certificates and diplomas tied to new and revised credit programs to ensure they meet the academic standards of the university from a pedagogical perspective.
- Develop and implement processes for identifying and evaluating new micro-credentials within existing and new for-credit learning experiences, including maintaining a list of in-demand skills and evaluating whether competency-based assessments would be considered valid by industry.
- Establish and co-chair Dalhousie's Non-Credit and Micro-Credential Committee. As part of this role, provide letters of endorsement required for Faculty/Governance council approval.
- With particular reference to their portfolio, support the needs of those who teach and support teaching at Dalhousie University through one-on-one and group consultations; and the design, facilitation and review of retreats, sustained learning experiences/courses/certificates, and workshops/sessions.
- Engage individually and collaboratively in scholarship related to higher education teaching and learning.
Note The successful applicant will be eligible for hybrid work (combination of in-person work on campus and remote work) as agreed by all parties based on operational requirements and university guidelines. Required Qualifications - Master's degree in a relevant field plus approximately five years' experience in educational development in higher education (or equivalent combination of training and experience).
- Proven experience in instructional design with a demonstrated knowledge of, and engagement in, program development, and micro-credential and non-credit credential creation.
- Excellent communication (verbal and written), collaboration and interpersonal skills.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently with strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
Assets - Doctoral degree in a relevant field.
- Demonstrated engagement in scholarship related to educational development and teaching and learning in higher education (e.g. through publications and presentations) and/or demonstrable, equivalent command of relevant literature and dissemination practices.
