About the Job
In this role, you will:
- administer area maintenance contracts related to maintenance and repair of transportation related facilities, ensuring work is completed to contract documents and specifications
- monitor the contractors’ delivery of maintenance and repair operations
- ensure contractors maintain work records
- monitor financial forecasts and expenditures
- provide analytical support to ensure effective delivery and value for money
The position will require:
- frequent travel to remote work locations
- occasional after hours and weekend work, including working alone
- working outside and walking on a rough terrain (e.g. walking into a ditch as part of an inspection)
What you Bring to the Team
Mandatory requirements
- The position requires the successful candidate to have a valid class G driver’s license or equivalent. The offer of employment is conditional upon the successful candidate providing proof that they have a valid driver’s license upon being hired.
Road Maintenance and Construction Knowledge
- You have an understanding of road maintenance, inspection and repair in summer and winter conditions
- You have practical knowledge of road construction, practices, equipment and materials
Legislative and Contract Management Knowledge
- You can interpret and apply various acts and regulations such as the Highway Traffic Act and the Public Transportation and Highway Improvement Act
- You have thorough knowledge and skills in contract administration
Supervisory and Planning Skills
- You have proven ability to plan and lead activities within established timeframes
- You can supervise staff and manage stakeholders in high pressure situations
Communication, Negotiation and Computer Skills
- You have demonstrated negotiation, oral and written communication skills to deal effectively with contractors and the public
- You have working knowledge computers and various software applications such as word-processing, spreadsheets, databases and email
