Overview

We are seeking a Senior Regional Underwriter to act as a key growth engine for our Commercial Underwriting Operations team. You will go beyond traditional risk assessment, spearheading new business development, executing strategic underwriting initiatives and serving as a trusted technical expert for valued broker partners.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the assessment, negotiation and acquisition of complex current business submissions, directly contributing to regional profitability and expansion goals within the mid‑market segment.
  • Actively participate in business strategy planning and implementation, analyzing mid‑market trends to identify and capture emerging commercial opportunities.
  • Serve as the face of Economical in the market, cultivating robust, long‑term relationships with brokers and proactively leading production calls to secure key accounts.
  • Leverage deep technical expertise to underwrite and negotiate complex property and casualty accounts, focusing on mid‑market commercial business.
  • Act as a subject matter expert, providing elevated technical support and guidance to broker partners and internal stakeholders on mid‑market risk solutions.

Qualifications

  • A university degree in any discipline, a 2‑year diploma from a publicly recognized college, or a completed CIP designation.
  • Minimum of 5 years of progressive experience in Commercial Lines underwriting.
  • Proven track record of successfully underwriting complex accounts, with extensive experience handling P&C mid‑market business.
  • Strong analytical and strategic planning skills, able to quickly interpret market data, identify trends and make confident, profitable business decisions.
  • Exceptional communication skills with the proven ability to influence stakeholders and skillfully negotiate terms and conditions.
  • Excellent existing broker relationships within the region and a proactive approach to creating and nurturing new distribution channels.

Compensation

Salary Range: $59,300 - $109,200. Actual salary for the role may vary depending on work location, skills, education, experience, working conditions and the local labour market.
