Child and Youth Care Worker - 611 Program - FT Days

About The Job

The Child and Youth Care Worker works with a young individual in a highly structured and personalized program within a home environment. They develop and maintain a safe learning environment based on the strengths, abilities, and needs of the youth to enhance their level of independence and quality of life. The Care Worker builds strong relationships with the youth to support their personal development and responds effectively to a variety of challenging situations and behaviors with appropriate interventions.

Responsibilities Include, But Are Not Limited To

• Provide opportunities to acquire and maintain life skills necessary for independent living
• Support morning routine
• Provide emotional support and reassurance using trauma-informed approaches
• Follow individualized care plans, including behavioural strategies and safety plans
• Maintain a safe, secure, and clean home environment, including performing housekeeping, laundry, meal prep, etc.
• Respond to medical, behavioural, and emotional needs, including crisis situations
• Use de-escalation and crisis response strategies in line with policies
• Complete accurate documentation and communication logs
• Research resources, tools, or strategies to better support the youth (e.g., new interests, coping strategies, or skill development, recreational activities, etc.)
• Administer or support medications in accordance with policy (as required)
• Provide communication and support to family members and care team, including school and community professionals.
• Attends ICM meetings and other appointments with youth as required.

EDUCATION, TRAINING, And EXPERIENCE

• Diploma in Human or Social services or other related field
• Experience working with a care team to support youth with diverse needs.
• Or a combination of education, training, and experience.

• Strong relationship-building and communication skills (with youth, families, and professionals)
• Ability to respond calmly and effectively in crisis situations
• De-escalation, conflict resolution, and problem-solving skills
• Trauma-informed, empathetic, and strengths-based practice approach
• Sound judgment, critical thinking, and decision-making abilities
• Ability to work independently overnight and as part of a team
• Strong observation skills and attention to detail
• Organization and time management skills
• Clear, accurate written and verbal communication (documentation)
• Initiative and adaptability in a dynamic residential environment
• Understanding of boundaries, professionalism, and confidentiality

Requirements

• Valid Class 5 Driver’s license and safe driving record
• Access to reliable transportation to report to the scheduled shifts on time. Access to a vehicle is an asset.
• Consent to Criminal Record and Background Check by the MCFD Hub.
• This position requires Union membership and 1.85% union dues are deducted from each pay.
• Following trainings are required and provided to the successful candidate free of charge. Existing certification is an asset: Emergency First Aid with CPR-C, Mandt-RCT, Safe Talk, Safe Food Handling, Medication Management, MCFD Privacy, Abuse and Neglect Awareness training, Anti-Bullying, and Harassment.
• Physical requirements of the job include performing household duties, including yard work, snow removal, general cleaning duties, etc.

PROGRAM: 611 Down or 611 Down

LOCATION : Kamloops, BC

STATUS: Full-Time

HOURS of WORK: 40 hours per week

SCHEDULE: Monday to Friday Days 730am - 330pm

REPORTS TO: 611 Program Coordinator

COMPENSATION: $27.54 - $31.61 (Grid 11 as per collective agreement)
