Compensation Details:

• Business Analyst 17: Salaries typically range from $84,698 to $112,931 annually, based on qualifications and experiences, plus a performance-based incentive.

Location:  

• Export Development Canada operates in a hybrid work environment, with a current requirement of three days per week (subject to change).
• This role may be performed from EDC’s headquarters in Ottawa, or from a Community Hub in Toronto, Mississauga, Montreal, Laval, or Brossard. 
• Relocation assistance is available for candidates who meet the eligibility criteria.

Team Overview:

The Digital & Technology Solutions (DTS) group under the leadership of the Chief Information Officer was established in 2023 with the mission of empowering our customers and colleagues to take on the world, by seamlessly delivering secure and reliable digital experiences. Digital & Technology Solutions has set out to achieve the following objectives for EDC: 

• Define, execute, and sustain the integrated technology target state, target data model and technology operations required to enable EDC’s 2030 business transformation. 

• Establish and manage the rolling 3 Year Digital Roadmap that sequences the technology outcomes required to achieve the technology target state and facilitate its execution across all domains in the organization. 

• Keep pace with industry trends and emerging technologies, ensuring EDC has access to the digital technology tools it needs to stay relevant in the market and grow Canadian global trade. 

• Lead and ensure integrated digital, data, infrastructure, and cybersecurity implementations to create excellent customer, user, and employee experiences. 

What you will be doing:  

The Business Analyst supports Delivery Families and Technology Teams working within the Digital Technology Solutions (DTS) group, with a focus on Risk & Corporate Services (RCS). 

The Business Analyst is responsible for enabling effective delivery outcomes by eliciting, analyzing, and validating business requirements, ensuring alignment between business needs, data, and technology solutions. The role partners closely with product owners, delivery teams, and stakeholders to support backlog refinement, solution design, and delivery execution within an Agile environment. 

The objective of this role is to ensure that business needs are clearly understood, requirements are complete and actionable, and solutions delivered meet expected outcomes. This includes supporting decision-making through structured analysis, identifying risks and dependencies, and ensuring data and process integrity across impacted systems. 

In addition, the Business Analyst plays a key role in an increasingly AI-assisted delivery environment by validating analytical outputs and ensuring insights generated through data and automation are accurate, explainable, and aligned with business and risk requirements. The role emphasizes critical thinking, judgment, and interpretation to support high-quality decision-making. 

The Business Analyst is also an active contributing member of the Business Analysis and delivery community, working collaboratively to share knowledge, improve practices, and drive consistency and continuous improvement across initiatives. 

Key responsibilities: 

• Business Analysis & Requirements Management : Elicit, analyze, and translate business needs into clear, structured requirements, including user stories and acceptance criteria, to enable effective delivery. Ensure requirements are complete, testable, and aligned with business objectives and technology constraints. 

• Impact Assessment & Solution Alignment: Identify and assess the impact of proposed solutions across applications, business processes, and data integrity. Proactively highlight dependencies, risks, and integration considerations to support informed decision-making. 

• Analysis Validation & Quality Assurance: Validate analytical outputs, requirements, and proposed solutions, including AI-assisted insights, to ensure accuracy, completeness, and alignment with business rules and data standards. Identify gaps, inconsistencies, and risks, and drive resolution with stakeholders and delivery teams. 

• Stakeholder Engagement & Communication : Present complex or conflicting issues clearly to stakeholders, facilitating understanding and enabling timely decisions. Apply strong communication, negotiation, and influencing skills to align stakeholders and resolve competing priorities. 

• Documentation & Deliverables: Develop and maintain clear, complete, and fit-for-purpose documentation that supports validation, traceability, and delivery. Ensure deliverables are appropriately sized for the initiative and usable by both business and technical stakeholders. 

• Defect Management & Root Cause Analysis: Collaborate with delivery teams to triage defects, perform root cause analysis (RCA), and validate solutions. Ensure issues are documented, prioritized, and resolved in alignment with business impact. 

• Testing & User Support: Support User Acceptance Testing (UAT) by preparing test scenarios, assisting users during execution, and resolving functional issues. Perform functional testing and produce supporting documentation, including Proof of Test (POT). 

• Advanced Analysis & AI Enablement: Frame business problems and decision questions for analysis, including AI-supported exploration. Translate findings into clear business implications and decision options, and support governance activities such as business rule validation and exception analysis. 

What we are looking for:  

• Undergraduate degree in business administration, information technology, or a related discipline, or equivalent combination of education and experience. 

• Minimum 5 years of experience (Level 17) or 7 years of experience (Level 18) in business analysis within a technology delivery environment. 

• Extensive experience eliciting, analyzing, and documenting business requirements, including creation of user stories and acceptance criteria within Agile delivery models. 

• Experience supporting end-to-end solution delivery, including backlog refinement, defect triage, root cause analysis (RCA), and user acceptance testing (UAT). 

• Experience assessing impacts across systems, business processes, and data, and ensuring alignment of solutions with business objectives and constraints. 

• Experience validating requirements, analytical outputs, and solutions to ensure accuracy, completeness, and adherence to business rules and data integrity standards. 

• Experience working with digital delivery platforms and modern analytics tools, with the ability to leverage data, automation, and AI-assisted insights to support analysis, validation, and decision-making. 

• Proven ability to facilitate workshops, lead discussions, and build alignment among stakeholders with competing priorities. 

• Demonstrated strong communication, negotiation, and influencing skills across business and technology teams. 

• Demonstrated ability to build, maintain, and evolve collaborative working relationships with cross-functional stakeholders. 

• Ability to identify and manage risks, dependencies, and impacts in a proactive and structured manner within a delivery environment. 

• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to validate complex outputs, recommendations, or insights, including integrating enterprise and cloud-based platforms (e.g. ServiceNow) through REST APIs, managing versioned APIs, authentication mechanisms (e.g., OAuth), and ensuring scalable and reliable integrations. 

• Ability to work effectively in ambiguous and evolving environments, with strong judgment and attention to data and analysis quality. 

• Understanding of business rules, controls, and risk-sensitive environments. 

What will make you stand out:  

• Bilingual in both official languages (French and English). 

• Experience working with AI-assisted analysis or advanced analytics tools. 

• Exposure to platform-based or enterprise systems. 

• Familiarity with governance, compliance, or risk management contexts.
