Context:
The Central Québec School Board (CQSB) is seeking a dynamic and collaborative Vice-Principal to support the daily operations of the school and contribute to the success of all students. The position involves advising and assisting the Principal in the management of instructional, educational, and administrative matters. Working closely with the Principal, the Vice-Principal helps ensure a safe, inclusive, and engaging learning environment, in alignment with the Education Act and CQSB’s orientations and policies.
Characteristic Functions
In general, this position includes the following responsibilities:
Assist the School Principal in the management of the instructional, educational, and administrative matters of the school, namely:
• Cooperate with the school team to develop, implement, adapt, and monitor programs and procedures that are compatible with the CQSB and Governing Board policies, related provincial regulations, as well as school directives and/or practices.
• Coordinate and participate in the Individualized Education Plan (IEP) process, including communication with parents and school team members involved, as required. Ensure follow-up on support measures.
• Support implementation of the school’s Educational Project, Action Plan, and school improvement initiatives such as Professional Learning Communities (PLC).
• Assist teachers with curriculum implementation, assessments, and exam logistics.
• Monitor student progress, identify students at risk, and coordinate interventions with staff and families.
• Manage daily student discipline, behavioural follow-up, and conflict resolution in collaboration with the intervention team.
• Oversee daily operations, including supervision schedules, attendance follow-up, transportation matters, and school activities.
• Attend and participate in various meetings.
• Coordinate substitute coverage, staff scheduling, and onboarding of new employees.
• Participate in managing the procurement of materials, resources, and technological equipment. Support the operational use of technology by assisting staff with digital tools, coordinating device management, addressing instructional technology issues, and liaising with IT Services for timely resolution.
• Participate in recruitment and selection of personnel.
• Observe and provide feedback toward the professional growth of staff members, as mandated by the School Principal.
• Help foster and sustain a positive, healthy, and safe school climate.
• Assist with parent communication, community events, and Governing Board follow-up.
• Support extracurricular programs, field trips, and student life.
• Act, as required, as an intermediary between external organizations and community partners, other levels of instruction, and CQSB.
• Implement rules of conduct, discipline policy, anti-bullying-anti-violence (ABAV) plan, safety procedures, emergency drills, and incident follow-up.
• Participate in the organization and supervision of daycare, noon-hour services, and student activities, ensuring alignment with the school’s educational mission, regulations and collective agreements while establishing appropriate conduct and safety measures.
• Act as Principal during short-term absences. Perform other duties as assigned by the Principal.
Requirements
• A bachelor’s degree in education or an undergraduate degree in a relevant field of study certifying a minimum three-year university program or hold a senior executive or senior staff position excluding that of manager in a board.
• Hold a graduate-level degree in school administration (DESS / Master’s). A minimum of 6 credits must have been acquired before the first appointment to a senior staff position in a school, and the remaining credits must be acquired within the first 5 years following such an appointment. In exceptional cases, the school board may refer a candidate who has not accumulated six credits in school administration to a selection committee.
• A permanent teaching license issued by the Minister, along with 5 years of relevant experience in a teaching or non-teaching professional position.
• Excellent English and French language skills (oral and written) are essential.
