The Board recruitment process currently underway is considering candidates for one upcoming vacancy. While all candidates will be considered, preference may be given to those residing in the Territories, Manitoba, Saskatchewan, New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, Prince Edward Island, or Newfoundland and Labrador(to ensure to the greatest extent where possible, representation of the communities which are invested in furthering the purpose of the organization).  

Current Board Skill Needs – Human Resources
The Canada Health Infoway Board of Directors is seeking one outstanding and accomplished Human Resources executive who is motivated to contribute, at a governance level, to Infoway’s pan-Canadian vision of modern digital health solutions and who has the necessary experience and skills to guide the governance of Infoway in the fulfillment of its mandate. This incumbent will participate on the HR and Compensation Committee of the Board of Directors which operates at a governance level.

Major Responsibilities

Priority Skills

•  An Human Resources executive with at least ten (10) years of experience at an executive or vice-president level. Someone who understands the importance of or has demonstrated the ability to work at a governance level. Strategic HR accountability at a national level preferably within healthcare, digital healthcare or a complimentary sector.  

Preferred Skills

• Experience with digital health innovation or healthcare interoperability or, knowledge or experience in standardizing health data and facilitating seamless access to health information.Knowledge or experience in improving patient access to health information within Indigenous communities and remote regions.
• Governance or leadership expertise in influencing jurisdictional changes, adoption, or pan-Canadian initiatives.
• Expertise in the areas of governance to enable Infoway’s role in driving strategic transformation through co-investments and/or partnerships with federal/provincial/territorial jurisdictions, healthcare providers, private sector, and consumers.

Duration of Term
The duration of the term is to the end of July 2027 subject to renewal in accordance with Infoway bylaws.

Qualifications

Guidelines for Director Selection
Infoway’s Board of Directors includes two federal government representatives, one provincial/territorial government representative from each of the five regions of Canada, and four to six independent directors selected from the private/non-government sectors.

The composition of Infoway’s Board of Directors should reflect multi-skilled and multi-talented backgrounds. Individual Board members are expected to possess some but not necessarily all of the following qualifications.

• A keen interest in utilizing their leadership skills at a governance level to drive the mission of the organization, ensuring the improvement, modernization, efficiency and sustainability of the Canadian healthcare system, with the overarching aim of improving the patient experience.
• A sound appreciation of digital healthcare technology and transformation and how it can be leveraged. 
• An ability to influence the governance of the business, healthcare communities and the public on the value and necessity to promote the effectiveness of digital healthcare innovation and interoperability.
• Personal qualities and experience gained in leadership roles in public or private organizations or healthcare facilities.

As a director, the incumbent is required to travel four times a year to attend two-day Board meetings in various locations across Canada. In addition, they will be asked to be a member of one of the Board’s three subcommittees which meet independently of the Board minimum four times a year. The nominees should be able to set aside time for these commitments.

Primary Duties

• Operating at a governance level, articulate a broad pan-Canadian vision for empowering Canadians with the next wave of digital health innovation and define the role of Infoway in meeting that vision;
• Support strategic directions and priorities for Infoway;
• Approve and monitor deliverables related to priority projects, investments and strategies; and
• Serve as advisors to the members of the Corporation who are the federal, provincial and territorial Deputy Ministers of Health.

Meetings are held remotely and in person, in different provinces throughout Canada
