POSITION OVERVIEW

The Employee Relations Officer provides support in addressing employee relations matters, promoting positive working relationships, and maintaining a fair, respectful workplace across Kainaiwa Children's Services Corporation. The Employee Relations Officer investigates and helps resolve workplace concerns, advises managers and supervisors on employee relations matters, and supports compliance with organizational policy and applicable employment legislation. Under the direction of the Human Resources and Communication Manager, the Employee Relations Officer also supports the incorporation of traditional values and practices into employee relations matters.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• Serve as the primary point of contact for employees and managers/supervisors regarding workplace concerns, conflicts, and employee relations issues.
  




• Investigate and assist in resolving employee complaints, grievances, and workplace conflicts in a fair, timely, and confidential manner.
  




• Ensure employee relations matters are addressed in accordance with the Corporation's Policies and Procedures and applicable employment legislation.
  




• Network and liaise with KCSC managers and supervisors to identify and address employee relations issues and support a positive, respectful workplace culture.
  




• Support the fair and consistent application of performance management and disciplinary processes, including related documentation.
  




• Advise managers and supervisors on employee relations matters, policy interpretation, and best practices.
  




• Support the development and delivery of workplace conflict resolution processes, including facilitation and mediation where appropriate.
  




• Maintain accurate and confidential employee relations files and documentation.
  




• Monitor trends in employee relations issues and recommend improvements to related policies, procedures, and practices.
  




• Assist in the development, review, and communication of human resources policies related to employee relations and workplace conduct.
  




• Support compliance with applicable employment standards, human rights, and occupational health and safety legislation as it relates to employee relations matters.
  




• Support the incorporation of indigenous traditional values, teachings, and practices into employee relations matters, including traditional approaches to conflict resolution and reconciliation, where appropriate.
  




• Provide reports and employee relations status updates to the Human Resources Manager.
  




• Perform other related duties as assigned by the Human Resources Manager from time to time.
  

QUALIFICATIONS

• Post-secondary education in Human Resources, Business Administration or a related field, with a minimum of two years’ related experience in employee relations, labour relations, or human resources.
  




• Chartered Professional in Human Resources (CPHR) designation or related designation is an asset.
  




• Knowledge of employee relations best practices, conflict resolution and investigation processes, and applicable employment legislation is an asset.
  




• Valid Class 5 Driver's Licence and reliable vehicle.
  

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

• Proficient use of various computers and software such as Microsoft 365.
  




• Must possess good interpersonal, written and verbal communication and presentation skills.
  




• Strong skills in conflict resolution, mediation, and relationship building, with sound judgment and the ability to maintain confidentiality.
  




• Teamwork, problem solving and organizational skills an asset.
  




• Working knowledge of the Blackfoot language and culture is an asset.
  




• Understanding of, and respect for, indigenous traditional values, teachings and practices, and the ability to incorporate these into employee relations approaches, is an asset.
