Job Summary
The Project Communication and Engagement Coordinator will support the new Fancsy Family Hospital project. The primary responsibilities for this role include creating high-quality content, managing community engagement activities, and providing expert advice and recommendations.
Working under the strategic direction of the Manager, Communications and Engagement, and within the broader oversight of the Vice President of Redevelopment, the role independently develops and coordinates content across multiple channels, supports effective user and community engagement, and applies sound professional judgement in day to day execution.
The successful candidate will use their communication and engagement expertise to lead projects, coordinate with internal and external partners, and guide the team through communication and engagement initiatives.
This is a multidisciplinary role requiring a blend of strategic, technical, and production-based skills, including content development, writing, filming, and project coordination.
Responsibilities
Responsibilities vary from day to day depending on project priorities and planning phases, requiring a flexible, experienced professional who can adapt quickly while maintaining quality and alignment with approved strategies.
Communications
- Champion communication and related special projects throughout all three phases of the hospital build. The successful candidate will work collaboratively as part of the redevelopment team and be trusted to work independently, using professional judgment to ensure all work follows approved strategies, policies, contracts, and legislative requirements.
- Develop and coordinate communications materials across multiple channels, including the project website, newsletters, social media, presentations, videos, speaking notes, and briefings, ensuring consistency with approved messaging, tone, and branding.
- Support media relations activities for the project, including drafting media releases and advisories and coordinating responses to more complex or sensitive inquiries, escalating reputational or high risk matters in accordance with established protocols.
- Monitor and analyze media coverage and communications performance, synthesizing findings into insights and recommendations to support continuous improvement and decision making.
- Provide quality assurance for communications deliverables developed by the project team, the broader organization, consultants, and vendors to ensure alignment with project messaging and corporate brand standards.
Engagement

- Develop, plan, and deliver meaningful engagement activities for internal and external users and community groups, under the strategic direction of the Manager, Communications and Engagement, tailored to project phases and opportunities for meaningful participation.
- Maintain working relationships with community partners, committee members, and interested and affected parties, serving as a day to day contact to support informed participation and mutually beneficial outcomes.
- Plan and coordinate engagement activities such as town halls, briefings, committee meetings, and public consultations in alignment with organizational engagement standards and best practices.
- Develop engagement materials including agendas, presentations, signage, and displays, ensuring clarity, accessibility, and consistency with approved messaging.
- Analyze engagement feedback and participant input to identify themes, risks, and opportunities, and recommendations for future engagements.
Committee, Governance, And Project Support
- Serve as a communications and engagement professional resource to project related committees, including the Communications Working Group, Art Committee, and Heritage Interpretation Working Group, and support committee chairs and support project staff as needed.
- Prepare committee materials, briefing documents, and action tracking summaries, ensuring clarity of decisions and follow up under established governance structures.
- Coordinate communications and engagement related tasks to support timely, coordinated, and effective delivery of projects and initiatives.
Contributes To Improve Outcomes Of Safety, Increased Quality And Delivery Of Care To Reduce Injuries, Near Misses, Complications, Infection And Mortality Rates By
- Maintaining and promoting a safe and clean working environment for all employees, students, visitors, patients/clients, family members and physicians and fulfilling the duties of workers under the Occupational Health and Safety Act.
- Having the right to be part of the process of identifying and resolving workplace health and safety concerns. This right is expressed through worker membership on joint health and safety committees, or through worker health and safety representatives.
- Having the right to know about any potential hazards to which they may be exposed. This means the right to be trained and to have information on machinery, equipment, working conditions, processes and hazardous substances.
- Having the right to refuse work that they believe is dangerous to either their own health and safety or that of another worker. Members of the joint health and safety committee who are "certified" have the right to stop work that is dangerous to any worker.
- Reporting and documenting any observed risks or hazards to management personnel and taking immediate corrective action whenever safe and feasible.
- Acting in accordance with hospital patient safety policies and programs.
- Responding to safety risks to clients and takes action in situations where client safety and well-being are compromised.
- Reporting any observed risks to the appropriate authority whose actions or behaviours towards clients are unsafe or unprofessional.

Qualifications
- Degree or diploma in communications, public relations, marketing, event management, or a related field.
- Minimum 5-7 years of progressive experience in engagement, communications, or public relations, including responsibility for complex issues, independent judgment, and advisory support.
- Demonstrated experience working in a complex environment with a multi-disciplinary team.
- Experience working in healthcare, infrastructure, and/or public sector projects is an asset.
- IAP2 Certification in Public participation is an asset.
- Demonstrated experience with video production and editing is an asset.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite; familiarity with design tools (e.g., Canva, Adobe Creative Suite), content management systems, and event platforms is an asset.
- Ability to work occasional evenings or weekends for events or meetings.
