System Engineer & Interface Manager

Job Responsibility: Location: Ontario, Canada Employment Type: Full-time About The Role We are seeking a highly skilled System Engineer & Interface Manager to lead the definition, coordination, and management of system interfaces across complex engineering projects. This role requires deep technical expertise, strong leadership, and the ability to ensure seamless integration of subsystems delivered by external suppliers, civil partners, and contractors.The successful candidate will bridge the gap between system design, civil scope, and client requirements—driving solutions from requirements definition through integration, testing, and lifecycle management. Key Accountabilities

• Acquire a deep understanding of supplier subsystems and ensure full system-level compatibility.
• Identify, define, and control all system interfaces; prepare and manage interface matrices and registers.
• Lead requirements discussions with internal teams and external clients.
• Develop and maintain System Requirements and the Requirements Traceability Matrix (RTM).
• Decompose system requirements into lower-level specifications and allocate across engineering teams.
• Support coordination between system design and civil works; issue periodic Coordinated Interface Reports.
• Lead integration and interface meetings/workshops; support client/internal design reviews.
• Execute System Integration Tests and define impact analyses for proposed changes.
• Support configuration management and compliance with CMMI, CENELEC, AREMA, IEEE, IPC and related standards.
• Provide technical support to external stakeholders (customers, tenders, users) and contribute to budget estimates.

Required Skills & Experience

• 7+ years of engineering experience with at least 3 years in system integration, interface coordination, or design engineering leadership.
• Proven experience managing external stakeholders, civil contractors, and integration consultant packages.
• Strong knowledge of engineering lifecycles, HW/SW integration, and delivery to closure.
• Proficiency with DOORS, PLM systems, defect tracking, and configuration tools.
• Strong leadership and communication skills; proven ability to manage cross-functional teams.
• Expertise in Systems Engineering fundamentals:

• Requirements & Configuration Management
• Interface Management
• Ability to work across multiple projects simultaneously with attention to detail and organization.

Desired Skills

• Licensed Professional Engineer (P.Eng) in Ontario or ability to obtain certification.
• Experience with BIM design processes.
• Prior exposure to railway/mass transit systems and civil design development.
• Knowledge of collaboration tools such as ProjectWise, Aconex, etc.
• Prior experience working with globally distributed, cross-functional teams.
• Ability to pass a clear criminal background check.

Education

• Undergraduate or graduate degree in Electrical, Mechanical, Electronics, or Systems Engineering, or equivalent experience.
• Ontario P.Eng certification is highly desirable.
