Job Summary

The Nurse Practitioner (NP) in the Community Urgent Care Clinic works within the NP scope of practice in the following category of practice: (Family/All Ages). This is an advanced practice role providing professional, analytical and comprehensive health services to clients/families including, but not limited to, health assessments and diagnoses of diseases, disorders, injuries and conditions, treating and managing acute and chronic illnesses and identifying health risks and needs within a holistic, episodic care model.

The NP works independently in an Urgent Care environment, conducting rapid assessment and diagnosis, which may necessitate individual follow-up at times. This is supported by scheduled, weekly administrative time in order to review results and provide additional client care and necessary follow-up via in-person, telephone or virtual visits. The NP will also work collaboratively with other providers and staff at the clinic. The successful applicant will be supported to become proficient in the use of virtual care technologies.

Constantly moves, lifts, or operates equipment/machinery up to 10 lbs. and regularly is required to lift/move equipment, books, supplies, and sometimes children up to 25 lbs. Occasionally, may have to reposition a patient over 50 lbs.

Physical effort also includes regular sitting to conduct patient histories, performing work on the computer and when assessing patients, regularly stands or walks.

When performing procedures, regularly uses fine finger/precision work and hand tools (i.e., medical instruments, computer mouse, stethoscope, etc.) requiring accurate control and steadiness.

Visual concentration is required when performing physical assessment and procedures, completing charts/reports, observing patients, reading equipment/monitors, and completing work-related correspondence on the computer.

Job Qualifications

Completion of an approved/recognized Nurse Practitioner program is required.

Current and continuing registration with the Newfoundland and Labrador College of Nurses (NLCN) and Licensed (or eligible for licensure) as a Nurse Practitioner (Adult or Family/All Ages) with the NLCN.

A minimum of five years' nursing experience within the last seven years, including two years' experience working as a Nurse Practitioner in Primary Health Care, Emergency Room, Urgent Care or a similar clinic setting providing care to Family/All Ages, is required.

Current BCLS Certification is required.

Knowledge of urgent care/episodic care model.
