About the Position:

We are seeking applications from collaborative, service-oriented, and safety-focused leaders committed to providing safe, dependable, and cost-effective student transportation services for a temporary one-year contract with an end date of June 30, 2027. Reporting to the Director of Facilities & Transportation, the Manager of Transportation provides strategic and operational leadership for the district's Transportation Department. This role oversees student transportation services, fleet operations, route planning, regulatory compliance, and a diverse unionized workforce, while supporting continuous improvement through data - informed planning and effective stewardship of district resources.

Core Responsibilities:

• Ensure the safe, dependable, and efficient delivery of student transportation services across the district.
• Oversee school bus fleet operations, including scheduling, routing, walk limits, special-needs transportation, inspections, licensing, insurance, and maintenance requirements.
• Collaborate with administrators, senior leadership, and support teams to develop, adjust, and implement student transportation plans.
• Lead operational policy development, safety procedures, emergency response, and critical-incident protocols for transportation services.
• Manage transportation operating and capital budgets, forecast expenditures, monitor performance metrics, and support Ministry and Board reporting.
• Supervise, evaluate, recruit, orient, schedule, and support transportation staff, including drivers, mechanics, office staff, trainers, and fleet custodians.
• Administer transportation systems such as Edulog, Traversa, MyEd, Rycor, Atrieve, and Asset Planner to support efficient planning and reporting.
• Ensure compliance with municipal, provincial, and federal transportation regulations, including WHMIS, WorkSafeBC, the Motor Vehicle Act, National Safety Code requirements, and Transport Canada regulations.
• Engage families, school leaders, community partners, vendors, contractors, regulators, and emergency- response agencies to address service needs and resolve concerns.
• Research and recommend improvements to transportation methods, systems, equipment, fleet modernization, and service delivery.

You bring experience leading multidisciplinary teams in a complex, unionized environment and are comfortable balancing route planning, fleet management, budgeting, compliance, emergency response, and stakeholder relationships. Qualifications:

• Grade 12 plus a post-secondary diploma or certificate in operations, transportation, or business administration, and completion of a recognized supervisory or management program.
• Minimum five years of recent, progressive experience managing student transportation or a comparably large fleet operation, preferably in a unionized public-sector environment.
• Proven expertise in route planning, fleet maintenance, and regulatory compliance, including the Motor Vehicle Act, WHMIS, WorkSafeBC, National Safety Code requirements, and Transport Canada regulations.
• Demonstrated success in budgeting, cost control, data analysis, and capital planning for transportation services.
• Leadership experience in recruiting, coaching, supervising, evaluating, and performance-managing multidisciplinary teams.
• Advanced knowledge of computerized routing, dispatch, and asset-management systems such as Edulog, Traversa, MyEd, Rycor, Atrieve, and Asset Planner.
• Valid BC Class 2 driver's licence with air-brake endorsement and a clean driver's abstract.
• Strong interpersonal, communication, and conflict-resolution skills with the ability to foster collaborative relationships.
• Capacity to work independently, set priorities, and adapt to evolving operational needs while maintaining a strong commitment to workplace safety.
