POSITION PURPOSE STATEMENT: This position is within the Bargaining Unit of Canadian Union of Public Employees, Local 363. The Municipal Engineer II provides professional engineering support for the planning, design, and delivery of municipal infrastructure capital projects and development driven projects. This role ensures compliance with standards, oversees construction activities, and contributes to the development and maintenance of sustainable infrastructure to meet the needs of the community. II. WORK ENVIRONMENT: This position regularly interacts with the supervisor and team members, working both independently and collaboratively. This position also liaises with various City departments, external agencies, consultants, and members of the public. This position works primarily indoor and occasionally outdoors in a variety of weather conditions. III. MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Provides technical support as required for municipal infrastructure projects and ensures compliance with design and good engineering practice.
- Manages municipal infrastructure projects and ensures compliance with design and good engineering practice.
- Reviews development proposals for compliance with relevant municipal bylaws as to impacts on existing city infrastructure.
- Assists with and coordinates the preparation of long-range plans and budget.
- Prepares cost estimates for municipal infrastructure projects.
- Recommends purchase of survey and engineering supplies.
- Supplies technical information to City crews, Contractors, and the Public.
- Prepares engineering proposal calls and contract tender documents.
- Provides for proper design and implementation of capital works projects including project management and financial administration.
- Attends City committee meetings and presents projects as required.
- Performs other related duties as required.
IV. KNOWLEDGE, ABILITIES AND SKILLS:
- Considerable knowledge of the methods, techniques and equipment used in survey work.
- Considerable knowledge of municipal engineering practice.
- Considerable knowledge of computer software programs. Ability to use AutoCAD Civil 3D to create plans, maps, and engineered drawings.
- Ability to plan and organize work with the minimum of direction.
- Ability to exercise courtesy, tact, diplomacy, and some persuasion in non-routine dealings with the public.
- Ability to understand and effectively carry out oral and written instructions and work with minimal supervision.
- Knowledge of W.C.B. Regulations and City of Revelstoke safety policies.
REQUIRED TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE:
- Diploma in Civil Engineering technology.
- Experience in surveying and drafting in the Municipal field.
- Experience in the supervision of Municipal Infrastructure construction projects.
- Experience with CADD.
- Experience in design of municipal infrastructure including roads, water, sewer and storm sewer
