GIS Technician - Project Support Services

Position Overview

SWAT Consulting Inc. has an exciting opportunity for a dynamic and personable professional to join our expanding Project Support Services group as a GIS Technician in a full-time capacity. This position offers flexibility in location—Calgary, Leduc, or Grande Prairie, Alberta—and includes the option to work remotely. We are looking for an motivated individual who will be responsible for providing GIS deliverables and support for new and ongoing environmental projects. These deliverables may include but are not limited to cartographic maps, spatial analyses, web mapping, 2D/3D analysis, drone processing, 3D cross-sections, borehole logs, and environmental data tables. The GIS Technician will interact with a multi-disciplinary team of environmental professionals on a number of diverse and exciting projects that could be occurring concurrently and on quick turnarounds due to regulatory-driven deadlines. The office-based role requires the candidate to be available to work on evenings and weekends on an as needed basis for efficient program execution.

Responsibilities

• Prepare cartographic outputs (figures, maps, cross-sections, web maps) and conduct GIS analyses to support decision making.
• Ensure the quality of deliverables being issued meet project and corporate standards.
• Collaborate with technical staff to assist with spatial data collection and technology integration.
• Communicate with the field and office leads about aspects of the project.
• Manage large volumes of deliverables effectively.
• QAQC processed data and complete quality checks.
• Perform all assigned training and follow office safety guidelines.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
• Report to the Manager of Project Support Services and communicate workload, as well as opportunities and challenges to ensure our team continues to learn and progress.
• Support the continual development of SWAT’s quality control and assurance standards.
• Work on multiple projects within scope, budget and schedule while ensuring quality of deliverables.

Qualifications

• Degree or technical diploma in Geomatics or Geographic Information Systems. Relevant job experience will also be considered in lieu of a degree.
• Strong understanding of data organization, data sourcing, and metadata management.
• Understanding of oil and gas regulatory requirements including but not limited to Alberta Tier 1 and 2 Guidelines, the Canadian Council of Ministers of the Environment (CCME) Guidelines and AER Directives 50 and 58 and Directive 001 (requirements for SSLA) is an asset.
• Ability to work collaboratively and independently in a team-based environment, with both internal and external stakeholders.
• Strong attention to detail and accuracy, and excellent time management, written and verbal communication skills.
• Critical thinking with a focus on efficient task execution and achievement of project objectives.
• An enthusiastic attitude, ability to multi-task and a passion for consistently delivering high quality work.
• • An eagerness to collaborate with a dynamic team and a small growth-oriented company.
• Comfortable working in a fast-paced environment with multiple work activities and concurrently deadlines.
• Computer and software proficiency is required (Microsoft 365, Adobe , ESRI ArcPro, ArcGIS Online, ESRI Enterprise, ArcGIS Field Maps, ArcGIS Survey123, Trimble GPS units, AbaData, etc.).
• Coding will be considered an asset (Python, VBA, etc.)
• Must complete and pass pre-employment drug and alcohol testing.
