Manager General Accounting

Job Responsibility:

Basic Function

Petro-Canada Lubricants Inc. (PCLI), an HF Sinclair company is seeking a Manager of General Accounting. The Manager of General Accounting is responsible for the delivery of accurate and timely financial statements while adhering to Company Policy and US Generally Accepted Accounting Principles. This role supervises a team of three accountants: the Lubeplex Accounting Analyst, Rack Forward Accounting Analyst, and Senior Accounting Analyst. The Manager of General Accounting is responsible for managing the team to ensure that work is properly allocated and completed in a timely and accurate manner in order to meet the Lubricants Accounting team's strategic goals. The position addresses tight deadlines and a multitude of accounting activities including general ledger preparation, financial reporting, audit preparation, and the support of budget activities.

Job Duties

Ownership of the General Ledger:

• Oversee general accounting functions
• Ensure accurate and timely monthly, quarterly, and year-end close processes
• Ensure compliance with SOX and US GAAP

Financial Reporting, Audit and Compliance:

• Oversees timely preparation of Statutory Financial Statements for Petro-Canada Lubricants Inc, Petro-Canada Europe UK, HollyFrontier Netherlands BV, and HollyFrontier Lubricant Specialty Products Europe
• Coordinate the preparation of the annual audits, including liaising with external auditors
• Ensure compliance with all internal processes and policies, as well as external regulations
• Implement and maintain internal control procedures to ensure the safeguarding of assets and accuracy of financial records and SOX compliance

Process Improvement:

• Assess current accounting operations, offering recommendations for improvement and implementing new processes
• Seek and identify opportunities to automate and streamline accounting processes, where possible, to increase efficiency and accuracy
• Stay up-to-date with industry trends and developments in accounting standards

Stakeholder Collaboration:

• Work closely with senior management to provide insightful financial analysis and recommendations
• Collaborate with other departments to ensure financial alignment and support business goals
• Communicate effectively with stakeholders to provide clear and accurate financial information

Special assignments or tasks assigned to the employee by their supervisor, as determined from time to time in their sole and complete discretion.

Experience

• 10+ years of progressive accounting experience, including management experience
• Experience with SAP and BW/BI would be an asset

Education Level

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
• CPA, CA certification with background in Financial Statement preparation and Audit

Required Skills

• Strong understanding of Accounting Principles, financial reporting, and audit
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel
• Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills
• Ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment
• Attention to detail and high level of accuracy

Supervisory/Managerial Responsibility

• Manage and oversee the daily operations of the General Accounting team (3 people)
• Supervise and mentor accounting staff, including training, performance evaluation, and professional development
• Set team targets and goals that align and support those of the Lubricants Accounting team and Corporate
• Coordinate and support annual budget activities

Work Conditions

• This is a Hybrid role - in office a minimum of 3 days per week
